SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X Wireless Review

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X

SteelSeries is my go-to brand for all accessories gaming. I like that they have tiers for all their products at different price points but don’t skimp on performance. For instance, SteelSeries’ Arctis Nova series has a headset for everyone, regardless of gaming platform, which all feature SteelSeries award-winning sound and ClearCast 2.X microphone. Their latest is the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X, which sits between the entry-level Arctis Nova 3 and upper-end Arctis Nova 7 Wireless. However, the Arctis Nova 5X brings with it something new that isn’t available on any other Arctis Nova headset.

DESIGN

Like the other headsets in the Arctis Nova lineup, the Arctis Nova 5X has pretty much the same look and design, though there are some slight differences. For starters, the Arctis Nova 5X does not have interchangeable ear plates like the higher end models have. Another difference are the way the ear cup adjusters are shaped. They’re not quite as elegant as the Arctis Nova 7 or Pros.

Aside from that, though, everything else is almost the same. These utilize the updated comfort band design, which means that the ComfortMAX System is more precise when it comes to sizing. You’re able to size it exactly to your head instead of using the one-size-fits-all approach. This means optimal comfort at all times. The ear pads use the same material as the Arctis Nova 7. They’re made of airweave fabric, and the material is breathable and soft.

The placement of the retractable mic is in the same spot and still looks just as good when hidden. Aside from that, you still have a good number of buttons and dials for tactile control and they are easy to feel out without looking at them.

FEATURES

There are actually different versions of the Arctic’s Nova 5, with this being the Arctis Nova 5X version. The main difference is just who its marketed towards with this version being for Xbox and PC users (though it still works with PlayStation and other consoles and platforms).

Here’s a quick run down of features:

– 100+ audio presets
– 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and wired connection (Simultaneous Wireless)
– 60-hour battery life
– Neodymium magnetic drivers
– 360-degree special audio
– ClearCast 2.X microphone

COMPANION APP

What makes the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5X different the other headsets in the lineup is the companion app, conveniently named, SteelSeries Arctic’s Nova 5. This app is mainly used for enabling on the fly audio preset for over 100+ games.

You can also use the app to adjust mic settings and choose presets for music. What’s neat is that you can set different presets for the 2.4GHz connection and the Bluetooth connection independent of each other.

Overall, a really good app to customize the sound and settings for the Arctis Nova 5X.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The SteelSeries Arctic’s Nova 5X is another welcome entry for SteelSeries. While they are missing the customization aspect of the higher end Nova headsets and don’t quite feel as premium, they sound terrific and have most of the same audio and mic specs. Not only that, the introduction of the companion app helps make the Arctis Nova 5X standout.

This is a good choice over the lower end Arctis Nova headsets thanks to the dual wireless audio setup, fantastic companion app, and 60 hour battery life. The Arctis Nova 5X is definitely another winner and another choice for those who a great gaming headset with lots of features at a reasonable price.
