Every now and then, I take a break from the normal routine of reviewing apps and review a bit of hardware or a gadget that companies send to me from time to time. Most of the time is something like a device case but today, it’s something quite different. For this review, I’ll be taking look at the Dockem: Universal Wall Mount & Cord Holder from Organization Solutions. It’s a simple piece of hardware that allows you to mount almost any mobile phone or tablet to the wall while still being easily removable.
When you order a Dockem, you’ll receive a package that includes 2 mounting brackets and a pack of Command brand adhesive strips. The mounting brackets are made out of plastic and they seem to be fairly sturdy and thick. They are of an unpainted black color so they might not be as pretty as painted or colored units but at least this way, you won’t have to worry about scratching or chipping paint. The Dockem is a universal fit mounting bracket so it will handle devices up to 20mm thick and as large as a tablet.
Installing the Dockem is a fairly simple task. It includes instructions on how to mount them with easy to follow text and images. Basically you just stick the Command adhesive strips to the back of the Dockem mounting brackets, line them up on the wall you want to mount them to and stick them on. Done. Because the Dockem consists of 2 separate mounting brackets, you can mount anything from a small mobile phone to a much larger tablet device. For me however, I’m mainly using this with my iPhone as it’s something that needs to get charged on a daily bases and it’s always done at night time by my bed so I figured I might as well mount it there.
Once mounted, the Dockem is very sturdy. The included Command adhesive strips really do their job and it seems like it would take a bit of effort to have them come off or unstick from the wall. If you measured everything out correctly, your device should now fit perfectly in it. What this means is that now, your device will be upright so you can see the screen as well as being able to be charged when docked. When taken off the dock, you’ll be able to clip the charging cable to the dock which is a handy way to store your charging cable when not in use.
There were no technical issues with the Dockem I could find and I’ll say that it is a solid mounting solution. I appreciate the fact that it uses standard off the shelf Command adhesive strips so that if you did need to remount it, you only need to head down to your local store to pick up new adhesive. The only thing I do wish is that it came in more colors instead of just basic black as I would have opted for choosing a different color, such as white as it would blend in more with my white walls.
The Dockem is an interesting product. It’s a very niche product for sure so not everyone is going to really understand the purpose of it. It certainly does have its uses, you just need to figure out if you will have need for something like this. In my case, I find it handy due to the fact that it frees up nightstand space and it keeps the charging cable out of the way and secure when not in use. You can buy the Dockem with included Command adhesive strips for $10.99 on their online store. If you don’t need the adhesive strips, you can buy just the Dockem for $7.99 as well.
