TGWK’s Review – National Geographic Kids: Weird But True v1.0 (iOS)

Weird But True is an interactive app filled with wacky facts from National Geographic Kids. The app boasts over 300+ facts, each with their own unique illustrations and sound effects. The entire app is based on a popular section from the National Geographic Kids magazine. Kids will enjoy the random, fun filled facts that are contained in the app, but that doesn’t mean adults won’t enjoy it as well as there were plenty of facts in here that I was not aware of.

Controlling the app is quite easy. Moving from fact to fact is as easy as shacking your device or swiping from side to side. On the right side of the screen, there are large buttons you can use for various actions. There is a “that’s weird” button that when clicked, an animal pops up and says “that’s weird.” After that there is a favorite buttons to save your favorite facts and a button to rate each fact on how weird they actually are.

Other than that, there really isn’t too much more to say about that app. It has a lot of different sound effects, but I do kind of wish that the app itself would read each fact out for you either automatically or with a push of a button. It would also be nice if the illustrations were animated or had some kind of interactivity to them. However, the Weird But True does have a lot of value with its 300 facts. It’s quite entertaining learning about things I didn’t know about before and all the facts are kid friendly facts so they will definitely be enjoying this as well. Hopefully, future updates of the app will include more wacky facts to learn.

Weird But True is available now in the App Store for $1.99. It is a universal app and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
