TGWK’s Review – Street Fighter IV Volt v1.02.00 (iOS)

Street Fighter IV Volt is the latest iteration in Capcom’s popular fighting franchise on iOS. Street Fighter really needs no introduction as it is one of the most popular fighting franchises of all time. Part of that has to do with the solid gameplay mechanics as well as the diverse roster of characters and fighting styles. No matter what fighting style you are in to, there is a character that will suit your needs. Street Fighter IV Volt is a massive game with 22 playable characters, a handful of solo play modes, multiplayer via local Bluetooth or online versus via Game Center. You can even save replays of your matches so you can analyze them later if you’re a perfectionist.

Graphically, the game is pretty fantastic. Character models look they are pulled right from the console version. Animations are smooth too although you can tell they cut out a few frames here and there. Still, game is graphically stunning and does the Street Fighter franchise proud. Capcom even added all the familiar sound effects, music, and character audio to make this an authentic Street Fighter experience.

On the control side of things, using a virtual touch pad and joystick will take some getting used to. There is no tactile feedback making it difficult to tell if you entered the correct combo to pull off a move. You will get used to it eventually. I do like how Capcom allows you to customize where you can position all the buttons on the screen as well as the transparency. Very nice touch since the default setting can take up almost half the screen.

Street Fighter IV Volt is the greatest version of the game to date on iOS. If you’re a fan of the Street Fighter series, you’ll be very happy with this game and all it has to offer. The gameplay is classic Street Fighter even though the controls have been simplified. If you’ve played any of the Street Fighter games in the past, you’ll be able to jump right in and play with very little instruction. The graphics are really good and Capcom did a great job porting a lot of it to iOS. This is again the best version of Street Fighter on iOS and I dare say the best fighting game on it as well.

Street Fighter IV Volt is available now in the App Store for $6.99. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
