TGWK’s Review – One Single Life 2 v1.1 (iOS)

One Single Life 2 is the follow up to the hit mortality game, One Single Life from developer FreshTone Games. Like the first game, this game deals with the same theme. You are alone atop of a skyscraper and must jump for your life to make it to the adjacent skyscraper. In theory, it sounds like an easy thing to do, but it’s not due to one glaring reason. You really do only have one life to complete this game. There are no 1-ups or do-overs. You really must commit every ounce of your life to 1 single jump and hope you make it. If not, it’s game over and that’s it. End of game. If that sounds like a recipe for a mental breakdown, it is. This is one of the most nerve-racking games out there and those who can’t handle the pressure need not play.

I’ll start this off by saying that One Single Life 2 is basically the same exact game as the original one. That’s not saying it’s a bad thing as the first game was also just as nerve-racking. It’s just that if you’ve played the first one, there’s really nothing new to the second one except for the new level designs. Graphically the game is exactly the same and still as gorgeous as ever with its unique graphic style of using a vivid looking background while everything in the foreground is depicted as a silhouette. Audio in the game is also as well done as the original.

Overall, One Must Die 2 is a decent update to the original. At the moment, it’s free so it is worth the download if you’ve never checked out the One Single Life games before. However, regular price for this game is $1.99 and at that price, it might be a bit steep for those who can’t justify the price for having only 1 life, especially if you die early on in the game. Where as the original game allowed for a bonus life if you completed the afterlife credit level, this one does not. Instead it offers you a discount on in-app purchases of infinite lives. Since it’s free right now, I’d still pick it up just because it’s free. Once the price goes back up, I wouldn’t really buy it. You can still pick up the original game as a substitute as that one has always been free.

One Single Life 2 is available now in the App Store for free. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
