Games for Kids is a collection of kid friendly games from developer Wombi. Wombi is no stranger to developing child-friendly games as their entire portfolio of apps consists of these. Games for Kids consists of 6 educational and fun games – Guess the Word, Odd One Out, The Sorting Game, Memory, The Parade, and Jigsaw Puzzle. The games are geared towards young children so they aren’t terribly hard at all. They are quite easy to play and perfect for those children who are just starting out. Like their other games, Games for Kids also features very child friendly art as well as a friendly voice for the narration and lots of fun sounds.
When it comes to ease of use, Games for Kids has it nailed down. The simple user interface makes it easy for children to select games. They can either swipe the screen to move between games or tap the handy arrows to move between screens as well. Each game is clearly marked with what it is as well as a pictorial description of it and each has a giant play button to press when they want to play it. The only other button that can be pressed is for settings and thankfully, it is child locked which means if they accidentally tap on it, it doesn’t take them to the settings. Instead they’ll have to tap on it a 2nd time to get there. This also goes for the back button while in a game. If they accidentally tap on it, it won’t automatically boot them out of the game unless they tap on it a 2nd time as well.
Like I said in the introduction, there are 6 games available to play – Guess the Word, Odd One Out, The Sorting Game, Memory, The Parade, and Jigsaw Puzzle. None of the games are really that hard, but each will test some basic critical thinking skills which are great for young children. The games test skills like memory, word association, and patterns. All are very important skills children should know and practice. Games for Kids does a good job of practicing these skills by disguising them as games.
Games for Kids is a good beginners app for children thanks in part to it’s semi-simplistic nature and entry level games. For the price of the app, you get 6 games that they can play which I think is a good value for the price. The games might be a tad easy, but for little kids, they’ll find them pretty challenging and you have the ability to adjust the difficulty settings. The graphics are good for the genre, the sound affects are amusing, and the narrations are friendly. It’s an overall well made, fun children’s game that would be a welcome addition to your child’s collection.
Game for Kids is available now in the App Store for $0.99. It is a universal app and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
