Alien Buddies v1.2.1 for iOS Review [TheGamerWithKids.com]

Alien Buddies is an educational, preschool learning app from Artgig Studio. I had never heard of Artgig Studios before, but what they have here is a very solid, learning game and one that should appeal to many young children. There three different modes included in the app that children can choose to play as well as a bonus mode that lets them collect stickers upon completion of levels. The three modes they can choose from in Alien Buddies is Match, Puzzle, and Dot to Dot. With one app, children will get to play what is essentially 3 different games in one.

In Match, there are 8 different sub categories to choose from. They can practice their colors, shapes, letters, and numbers visually as well as play the games using auditory clues instead. What that means is that instead of matching the correct shape or numbers by looking at them, you press a button and it’ll say something like circle or twelve, and you must match it up with the correct answer. This is a really good idea they implemented here and lets children learn both how shapes, colors, numbers, and letters look as well as how they sound.

The next game is called puzzle. Here, kids can choose any number of images and solve a puzzle consisting of 4, 6, or 8 pieces. It’s very simple to play and the pieces are large enough where kids should have no problem dragging them to the correct spaces. The also make it a bit easier by making pieces automatically click into place if near the correct spot.

In the final game, which is called dot to dot, this is basically connect the dots. You follow the numbers around drawing a line in order from lowest number to highest number. When you are done, it forms a picture. Again, not very hard, but helps children learn the correct order of numbers.

Alien Buddies is a very good, early education game for children. It teaches them the essentials, numbers, letters, shapes and colors, which are very important to learn at a young age. It also does it in a way which is fun. It also helps that the characters used in the app are cute and appealing as well as the fun, upbeat nature of the narrations. I’ll also mention that there is a neat reward system in place as well. With each activity completed, kids will earn a sticker. They can use the stickers in the sticker section which contains pages of scenes. They can then decorate the scenes with the stickers they’ve earned. Overall, Alien Buddies I feel is a great educational app for kids just learning their ABC’s, 123’s, shapes, and colors.

Alien Buddies is available now in the App Store for $1.99. It is a universal app and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later.
