If you can tell by most of the posts on this site, yes I own an iPhone and am a big fan of iOS and its many apps and games. Because of this, I also feature a ton of iPhone accessories on here that’s I’ve reviewed in the past for G Style Magazine. Sometimes I however, run across a piece of tech or a gadget which really catches my eye but it’s something I do not own or even plan on owning due to price, but it’s so cool that I have to let you guys know about it. With that said, check out the Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity watch. It may look like an ordinary watch, but this baby is packed tightly with tons of tech.
For starters, the Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity never needs a battery change. That’s because it’s powered by light. Any light source will do and as long as it gets exposed to light, it will recharge the lithium-ion cell indefinitely. That means that the Proximity will run forever. What really makes the Proximity neat however is the fact that it works in conjunction with your iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 using Bluetooth 4.0. What this means is that the Proximity has the ability to alert you to incoming iPhone notifications, like emails, iMessages, Calendar Events, or even incoming calls via a light vibration as well as a visual cue on the watch face.
There is even an accompanying iPhone app that will allow you to automatically sync the time of the watch to whatever time zone you may be in. You will never have to manually adjust the time. Here is the coolest thing about the watch and app though. Once paired to your iPhone, if you misplace the iPhone, the watch can activate your phones ringtone to help you find it. It will even let you know if you’ve accidentally left your phone somewhere if the Bluetooth signal gets interrupted due to distance.
Seriously, this is one cool watch and one that doesn’t look like a toy. The Citizen Eco-Drive Proximity retails for $495 while the accompanying app is free to download.
UPDATE: Amazon has this watch on sale for $372 preorder! Here and here.
