Printer Pro for iPhone v3.2.4 Review – Wirelessly Print to Any Printer

Printer Pro is a wireless printing app from Readdle. It’s similar to Apple’s own AirPrint standard except that with Printer Pro, you’re able to print to any printer that is connected to your computer, not just AirPlay compatible printers. All you need to do is download Printer Pro along with the free helper app that is installed to your computer. It does have a few limitations however but you are able to print Email Attachments, iWork documents, Web pages, Files from other applications, Clipboard content, Photos, Documents on Dropbox, MobileMe iDisk and GoogleDocs, and Contacts. You can also print from any application that allows the “open in…” list on your device.

I tried printing from a different sources that allowed the “open in…” command as well as attachments in my emails and they all seemed to print correctly. However, there are some limitations to the app. You can’t print emails directly as the print command does not recognize Printer Pro. You can print emails still, but it requires a bit of a workaround. Basically you have to copy the entire email and then you can print what is on the clipboard from the Printer Pro app itself. It’s not ideal, but it works. Printing web pags also requires a bit of a workaround where you must change the http:// prefix to phttp://. This will open up the web page in Printer Pro and allow you to print from there.

Overall despite its limitations, Printer Pro is a great app for those who do not have any AirPrint compatible printers. I for one have never been able to get AirPrint to work on any of my printers. They aren’t AirPrint printers but there have been hacks that are supposed to make them work regardless. I have never gotten them to work but with Printer Pro, it printed right off the bat without having to jump through hoops. The app and the helper app work flawlessly so if you’ve always wanted to print anything from your iPhone, but never were able too, I highly suggest checking out Printer Pro.

Printer Pro for iPhone is available now in the App Store for $4.99. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
