Toca Band is another fun, entertaining childrens game from developer Toca Boca. If you’ve been keeping up, pretty much every Toca Boca game I’ve reviewed in the past has been very good and very creative. They usually offer unique gameplay elements not found in other apps which makes them really stand out. For Toca Band, it’s no different. The app itself is a music creation tool where kids can experiment with different sounds and beats. It’s basically the kid version of a loop machine where each character in the app represents a different musical sound, in other words, a fun way for children to make music without having to know how to play music.
The app itself is very simple to use. Kids are presented with an empty stage. At the bottom are a row of different characters they can choose from. Tapping and holding down on a character will reveal what kind of musical sounds they play. If you like their sound, drag them up to the stage in one of the circles. Depending on which level you place them on, they will play a different beat. There are 7 regular beat spaces you can place characters on and 1 star circle which does something really special. Place a character on the star and you will be able to manually “play” them. Each has their own unique way of playing them which makes it really fun to experiment as you can also play along with the beat you created.
With almost endless possibilities of musical combinations, Toca Band offers a very unique experience for children who might be interested in music. Not only does the app encourage music creation, it also makes it fun and easy and the less complicated an app is for children, the more they’ll want to play with it. Like all other Toca Boca games, Toca Band is another brilliant app from them that is perfect for children.
