This is a quick review for the Marware rEVOLUTION case for the iPhone 5. It’s a 3-piece polycarbonate case that can be interchanged with other rEVOLUTION cases of different color in order to make a unique color combination if need be, though the only colors available right now are black and red. For this review, I am looking at the white rEVOLUTION case as this is the one that they sent me. The white allows you to see more of the intricate details of the case that are a bit hidden and hard to see with the all black case.
Design
As stated above, the Marware rEVOLUTION case is a 3-piece case. It consists of a top, back, and bottom piece that all snaps together to form the case. The top and the bottom portions are of a matte white color while the back portion of the case is shiny white. Marsware took this approach in order to mimic the look of the iPhone 5 with its matte aluminum rear bordered by 2 pieces of shiny glass. It does give the case a unique look and helps break up the surfaces a bit.
The rear piece has a ribbed diamond like pattern to it which I kind of like and does add some much needed texture to the rear of the iPhone 5. This helps with overall grip of the phone and makes it much easier to hold. The rEVOLUTION features all the necessery openings for the lightning port, speaker, and mic below as well as the mute switch and rear camera. What’s different about the case however is that it has it’s own built in button covers for the sleep/wake button and volume buttons. This allows a bit more protection for these vital components that are otherwise usually exposed.
Usage
To install the Marware rEVOLUTION case, simply separate the 3 components from each other. Slide on the top portion on your iPhone and then slide on the bottom portion. Don’t push too far in yet as you will most likely need to adjust the spacing a bit when you install the rear. The rear piece is installed by having one edge grab on to the lip of the iPhone and then you just click it over the other lip. making sure to align it with the top and bottom portions as well.
Of note, the top and bottom portions that slide in are very tight. They take some pressure to really push them in and at one point, I was a bit worried it might scratch the aluminum band. Luckily for me, I have a white iPhone so the band is bare aluminum. Not sure how this would play out with the black iPhone with the anodized band. Once on however, it’s a nice, snug fit and you won’t have to worry about the case coming apart.
The rEVOLUTION provides very good protection with every side being protected except for the screen. It wraps around the front edges of the screen however to protect the edges as well as allowing you to lay the iPhone flat without the screen touching the surface of the table. Marware does include a screen protector with the rEVOLUTION which is a nice bonus and it fits rather well.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Marware rEVOLUTION is a nice stylish case that will provide enough protection for most users. I wouldn’t quite recommend it for someone who has an overly active lifestyle as there isn’t any shock protection built into the design, but for the average user, it is enough for most drops and bumps. The rEVOLUTION can be purchased in either black or white (thought they will have other finishes later) and retails at $34.99 though I’ve seen it selling for less on Amazon.
