Dots is a pixel art creating tool from Beyondf. If you’ve ever wanted to create beautiful, retro looking pixel art on your iPhone, this is the app for you. Dots makes it very simple and easy to create professional looking pixel art with the ability to import photos and use them as templates for your designs. That means you can turn almost anything into a pixel masterpiece as long as you take the time to create it.

You start off your creation by choosing a size to work with. You can choose either 32×32, 64×64, or 128×128. Obviously the higher the resolution you choose to work with, the more detailed your pixel art will be, but that also requires more work to fill in all those pixels. Once you choose your size, you’ll be thrown into the creation screen. Here you can either create something from scratch or import a photo from your library. Photos can be sized and rotated and then show up as a light version of itself on the drawing area. This acts as a template for you to trace on. The drawing area has a grid on it so you know where all the pixels you draw will end up. The drawing tools are pretty simple as there is only the 1 pen tool but you can choose pretty much any color you want and set them as default colors in one of five slots.

Creating pixel art with this app is very simple, it just takes time. Dots keeps things simple with its tools and the ability to trace photos is a very welcome feature. I will say that if you are a fan of pixel art and have always wanted to dabble in it, give Dots a try. It’s a very efficient app that does exactly what it’s supposed to in a very straightforward manner.
