Into the Dead for iOS Review – An Endless Runner Filled With Zombies!

Warning: Into the Dead is rated 12+ due to the graphic nature of the game. It’s a horror game that features graphic violence, blood, and lots of zombies. I suggest keeping small children from playing this. Adults however, feel free to play it all you want.

into_the_dead_iconIf there’s one thing the App Store isn’t short on, it’s endless running games. I find myself downloading a new one at least a few time a month and this is mainly due to the popularity of this genre in mobile gaming. Most are pretty much the same and involve some kind of side scrolling action so it’s always a surprise when someone does something new. Into the Dead from PikPok is just that sort of game. When I first saw it in the App Store, I thought it was just another survival zombie shooter, but it’s actually something completely different from what I first assumed. It is in fact an endless runner disguised as a survival horror game and wow, does it mesh both genres perfectly.

If you look at the screenshots, Into the Dead looks like no endless runner you’ve ever seen. It doesn’t even look like an endless runner, but it is. Basically you play the role of the survivor and must run for your life through the endless horde of the dead. It utilizes simple touch controls or you can tilt to move. All you’re doing basically is running straight ahead while avoiding zombies. You can collect and pick up weapons as you play that you can use to your advantage and kill off zombies before they have a chance to get you.

Similar to other games like Jetpack Joyride for instance, Into the Dead has mini goals you can complete. You’ll need to complete them in order to unlock additional game modes, weapons, and perks.

Graphically, Into the Dead is really good looking. The environments look very realistic and it’s amazing sometimes to see the sheer number of zombies that can appear on screen at once.  It’s a really dark game and considering the subject matter, it fits perfectly with the whole atmosphere of it. There’s also a good variation of landscape as you’ll be running through fields of tall grass, corn fields, and even a forest.

Into the Dead is a fantastic addition to the endless running genre of games. It’s completely different from other endless running games I’ve played before which makes it a refreshing change of pace. It’s more realistic too than your usual endless runner. Again, this is more of an adult game so just be cautious about letting your children play this. It’s ultimately up to you if you want them to play this or not.
