In case you’re wondering, no, this game has nothing to do with Wreck-It Ralph and their version of Sugar Rush. Though this game may have the same name, Full Fat’s version of the all new Sugar Rush is a new match-3 puzzle game for iOS. If you’re thinking that this game may be a clone of other “candy” inspired games, you’d be wrong too. Instead, Sugar Rush offers up it’s own unique version of the match-3 puzzle genre.

For starters, Sugar Rush has many familiar aspects you’d find in other social match-3 games such as Facebook integration, being able to compete and compare scores with your friends, and the fact that you can only play a certain amount of games until your hearts run out and you need to wait for them to regenerate. That seems to be the trend now where they limit the times you can play artificially to get you to buy more lives if you don’t want to wait. You don’t have to spend real money, but you can if you feel the need.

As for the actual game itself, it seems like a simple match-3 game but there is more to it than that. Yes, it does have much in common with games like Bejeweled or even Candy Crush Saga, but there is a unique element to it. For starters, instead of starting off with a full board, the board here fills up slowly from the top and bottom. You can pop matching candies from either the top or bottom sections as well as flick candies between the two to form bigger chains before popping. If both halves meet in the middle, both sides will stop moving unless they happen to match in which case they will pop on their own. You still have to work quickly however as you only have 60 seconds to post your highest scores. While playing, you may also encounter special candies with unique properties to help you on your way.

Overall, Sugar Rush is an interesting addition to the match-3 puzzle genre. Yes it does share a few similarities to other popular games and it might be a bit unfortunate that people may see this as a Candy Crush clone without ever trying it out, but honestly, Sugar Rush should at least be tried out before making any assumptions. It’s fun, has some unique elements to it, and if you enjoy these type of games, you’ll enjoy Sugar Rush.
