Color Zen is a puzzle game from the minds at Large Animal Games. It’s a simple, color based game that has you trying to make the whole screen the same color. This is similar to those grid based color games you may have played before but Color Zen takes a new approach and makes the experience more dynamic and abstract. Instead of using a grid layout, puzzles are presented to you has colorful, abstract shape art. You need to match colors to change the screen color but in the end, you want to have everything all the same color as the border.
They way the game is presented is pretty simplistic which is also the appeal of the game. Each board features colorful shapes. These shapes can be single colored or multiple colored. Drag the shape against another shape of the same color to completely change the board to that color (except the border). This will get rid of any shapes that have the same color as well. Just keep repeating that until all the shapes disappear and only 1 solid color remains. It sounds easy enough to do but it can be quite a challenge.
The “Zen” in Color Zen refers to how relaxing the game can be. Use a headset and be engulfed by tranquil music and just enjoy the game at your own pace. There is no scoring or time limit, making it quite a relaxing puzzle game.
Overall, Color Zen is a very good, very relaxing puzzle game. I like the fact that there is no time limit or penalties for losing and that you can really take your time and go at your own pace. The music is also pretty good and has a zen like appeal to it as well. There are tons of levels to enjoy as well as an in-app purchase for a new level expansion. I’d definitely check this out if you’re a puzzle fan.
Of note, Color Zen is $0.99, but you can get it free if you first download the Apple Store app and then download Color Zen through there.
