Momento isn’t a new app, in fact, it’s several years old, but it’s worth a mention again because of its latest update. The latest update adds iOS7 compatibility as well as a new, flatter look that compliments the look and feel of iOS7. What is Momento? Momento is a private, portable, daily diary / journal that captures moments in your life. It can capture your daily activities, thoughts, ideas and photos, and your activity from social networks to create a timeline of your life.
Momento deserves a look because of what it can do rather than how it looks. Yes, the app looks fantastic thanks to the new iOS7 look and feel, but I’m more interested in its features. You see, Momento can work like any other diary / journal app out there where you can record what happens throughout your day through words or pictures. What makes Momento different though is that you can have it import items from all your social networks as well, meaning you can keep a detailed history of status updates from Twitter or Facebook, check-ins from Foursquare, and even photo posts from Instagram. You can also import feeds from sources like Flickr, Youtube, Vimeo, and others.
What makes this significant really is that if you’re a big Facebook and Twitter user, Momento allows you to import and search years work of status updates, quickly and all in one place. You’re a bit limited with Twitter however based on rules set by them, but you’ll be able to import at least the last 3200 tweets. If you connect Foursquare to it, you’ll be able to search through every single location you’ve ever checked-in at and be able to cross reference that with your social networking posts. It’s pretty neat and a rather interesting way to look back at your life.
Of course you don’t need to be on a social network to use this. Like I stated above, you can enter your own entries manually and start keeping a daily journal of your life. You can include text and pictures, as well as add tags for information like people who might have who may have been important to your day, location data, events, and custom tags. This allows you to quickly search through all your entries as well as being able to cross reference similar entries.
You can then view all your moments on a timeline or a calendar view of which days you made entries. All of this makes for one highly detailed, feature rich diary / daily journal app. If privacy is your thing, you can even password protect Momento so one can view any potentially private information you don’t want prying eyes to see. Momento also allows you to back up and restore all your information in case you need to switch devices as well as export data.
Overall, Momento is really awesome. I never used it before but after seeing what it can do and how easily it can keep a record of all my social networking updates, it’s an app I’m keeping on my device now that it allows me to quickly search through past events, making it very useful.
