If you’re the type of person who never has enough time to keep up with current events or even the type who doesn’t know what is going on in the world, you may want to take a look at Circa News, which has been completely redesigned for iOS7. Circa News isn’t just any regular old news reader that feeds you long, boring news. Instead, Circa News aims to make news more accessible by summarizing stories and being straight to the point, giving you all the relevant news in just a few paragraphs.
The new in Circa is all hand picked from their editorial staff. It’s not like Pulse or Flipboard where you can choose what to read. Circa chooses what it feels is the most relevant news at the time and serves them to you. You can swipe right on the app and filter categories however into, All News, United States, US Politics, World, Technology, and Science & Health. I end up leaving it on All News because this gives me a chance to actually read up on topics I usually don’t follow during the day.
I really like how each story features an image in grab your attention and a short sentence telling you general idea of the article. Click on the story and this bring up a larger photo with a short summarized paragraph under it. Swipe up to read another short paragraph and swipe up again to read another. Usually you go through between 2-4 paragraphs before the story is over but because of how they are written, it literally takes you less than a minute to read the whole thing and move on. At the end of each story, Circa presents you with a list of related articles that will help you understand the current article more if you weren’t quite sure about certain details.
Overall, Circa is a wonderfully neat way to read the news. I myself have very little time to actually sit down and read the newspaper or even to watch the nightly news. With Circa, I can browse through all the day’s news in just a few minutes and finally I have a way in which I feel like I actually now what’s going on in the world now. I definitely recommend this app for those who want to quickly go through all the day’s relatively important news in a short amount of time.
