Begin – To-do Lists Made Easy (iOS App Review)

begin_iconOn the quest to find more iOS7 specific apps, I came across Begin, a to-do manager made specifically for iOS7. That means that this app only works for those running Apple’s latest iOS and features design elements to match that of iOS7, flat, minimalistic, and straight to the point. Begin is touted as a to-do list for real people with only 3 simple options – do it today, do it tomorrow, or it’s done. Begin makes it easy to keep track of your day with daily reminders to keep you on point.

I’ll start off with how Begin looks as it was one of the main reason why I downloaded it to give it a try. Like I said, Begin is built for iOS7 so graphically, it’s very simple and elegant looking. It’s made up mostly of white and light grays but is broken up with a splash of red and green here and there. It makes for a rather clean design that keep distractions to a minimum. Of course there is also a dark them you can use that changes everything to black, but I don’t like it as much as the regular light theme.

Using Begin is very simple and mainly just requires simple swipes to use. If you’ve used the app Clear before, it’s very similar to that in a way. To enter a new task, swipe down on the screen and a “New Task” field opens up on the top in red. Enter what you want and tap the + button or done on the keyboard. That task gets added for Today. Keep adding tasks in that manner until you are done. To clear a completed task, swipe that item to the right and it will get crossed out but still appear at the bottom for today. If you didn’t mean to cross it out, swipe right again on it to undo. If you want to delete the task you completed, swipe left and it will be completed deleted from view. If you want to move a task to tomorrow, swipe left on it and it will move to the next day.

If you don’t complete the task within two days, it will get moved to an uncompleted menu which you can view on the main screen by swiping up on it. You can decide if you want to move it back into the main tasks screen or just delete it completely.

If you’re looking for an iOS7 specific to-do list maker, Begin is a great app for you to try out. It’s simple to use, easy on the eyes, and is made to have the same look and feel as iOS7. Not only that, it does exactly what it says it does and it does it well.
