When you think iPhone 5/5S cases, you usually think of a snap on style case that only protects the sides and rear of your device. This wasn’t always the case though with mobile phones. There was a time when pouch style cases were popular, but that went away when people stopped using BlackBerry devices. However, if you long for a case like that again, Snugg has the perfect case for you, it’s the Snugg iPhone 5/5S Leather  Pouch Case. It is a pouch style case that you slip your iPhone 5/5S in (naked) and offers full protection for your device including the screen while also allowing you to carry a couple cards in it as well.

Design

This is unlike any case that you’ve probably seen for the iPhone 5/5S, but if you’ve owned a BlackBerry before, you’ve probably used something like this in the past. It’s a leather slip in pouch for those who don’t like to use cases on their iPhone 5/5S but still want some sort of protection when carrying it around in your pocket or in a bag.

The Snugg iPhone 5/5S Pouch Case is made of PU leather in a distressed brown color and finished with matching brown stitching. The leather is pretty thick and of good quality. It even sort of has that genuine leather smell. Overall, it has a very elegant look to it that I think would appeal very much to professionals and business users.

Starting with the front of the case, you’ll notice that there is a tab stamped with the Snugg logo on it. This tab is attached to an elastic strap which I’ll talk more about later. The tab has a magnet embedded in it which allows it to stay securely in place without flapping around. At the bottom of the front are holes cutout which is a very nice touch because it allows for the sound to escape when your iPhone 5/5S is placed inside. That means when you get a call or notification, you’ll actually be able to hear it and it won’t be muffled.

When we flip the case over, we see that this portion is made of two pieces of leather. The second piece is basically used to form the rear pocket that you can use to hold things like business cards, credit cards, or your ID. You can fit about 2 credit card sized cards in there comfortably and I wouldn’t really try to stuff in more than that. The rear of the case is also stamped with the Snugg logo up top and the Snugg name accorss the bottom right corner.

Moving on to the interior, Snugg saw fit to line the interior with soft, nubuck fibre in a shade of brown. This is done to keep your device free from scratches along with providing a nice, snugg fit.

Now, the one problem you do get with cases like this that I’ve noticed in the past is that once you get the iPhone 5 into the case, sometimes it can be quite hard getting it back out because of how snugg the fit is. I’ve had this problem before with one other case and it’s one of the reasons I didn’t like cases like this for my iPhone. However, Snugg uses an ingenious method of quickly removing your iPhone from the case and it goes back to the tab that is located on the front of the case. All you do is pull the tab up and it will magically lift your iPhone 5/5S out of the case so you can easily pull it out. I’m not entirely sure how it does this, but it works and works well.

Final Thoughts

I haven’t really used a case like this in years, not since my BlackBerry days. I didn’t think I would ever use a case like this again, especially with my iPhone, but after using this for a few days, it’s actually quite good if you want to travel light. The Snugg iPhone 5/5S Pouch Case offers great protection when your iPhone 5/5S is in it, and being able to carry a couple cards is very convenient when you want to travel light.

Of course the only real drawback to a case like this is that you can’t see any of your notifications or really quickly glance at your phone, but at least you’ll be able to hear when you have notifications or a call.
