Amusing Zoo is an interesting game that combines a bit of gaming with that of a coloring book. There’s actually a little back story to this game that goes like this – The animals from the zoo have escaped, but in doing so have mixed up their bodies. It’s your job to correctly match up their heads and bodies so that they can go back home. Yes, it sounds a bit weird, but hey, it’s a kids app and kids have weird imaginations to begin with so they would think this is believable.
The game portion of the app has you choosing one of the available puzzles. You’ll be presented with some weird mixed up animal in which you must figure out the proper combination of head and body to solve.You do so by swiping left and right between the heads and bodies. Once solved, the solid white background will turn into a colorful landscape signifying that you have solved the puzzle. From there, you can go ahead and color your new animal using various painting tools and colors. Of course you don’t have to solve the puzzle at all and kids and go ahead and color any number of crazy animal combinations.
There’s also a lively soundtrack present, though it can get annoying after a while. Luckily you can turn it off in the settings if you’ve had enough of the looping music.
Amusing Zoo is amusing, but the free version of the game only includes two puzzles which makes the game very limited in what your kids will be able to play without having to shell out more money for more animals. In fact, to unlock all animals will cost you around $8 which seems a bit steep to me, especially if those $8 only unlock 8 additional puzzles. I would try out the app itself for free, but I’m not sure I would spend that amount of money to open up everything in this game. It’s a neat concept for an app, but I don’t think it’s worth the amount they want to charge you for in-app purchases. If it was maybe 1 in-app purchase for $.99 or even $1.99 for all 8 extra animals, that would have been much better.
