I had actually read about the FiLIP watch quite some time ago but didn’t look too much into it until recently when I heard it was coming to AT&T. What the FiLIP basically is is a nifty looking rugged watch for children that also functions as a basic phone and GPS locator, in essence making this really an emergency device for children. See that red button in the photos? If your child is in trouble, they can hold down the red button for 3 seconds. When activated, the emergency button triggers an automatic location beacon, ambient sound recording, and calls each of the five contacts until one is reached. I know as a parent, I’m constantly making sure that my child is in sight or I know where they are at all times.
When not in emergency mode, kids can use the FiLIP as a basic phone that they can use to contact family and friends but also be able to be contacted on. This is intended for children between the ages of 5-11 in which you may not want them having a full fledged smartphone, but you still want a way of contacting them or them being able to contact you.
If this is something that sounds of interest to you, you might be happy to note that the FiLIP will be released soon on 11/22 and will be sold exclusively at myfilip.com and att.com. AT&T is the official mobile carrier for FiLIP and will offer a special $10 a month rate for unlimited talk and data with the FiLIP. What’s even better is that there is no need to sign a contract. The FiLIP will retail for $199.99 when released.
