If there’s one thing there will never be a shortage of on iOS, it’s physics based puzzlers. There have been tons and tons of physics based games since the early years of the App Store and this is one genre which will always remain popular. Sure when you talk about this genre, the one series that always comes to mind is Angry Birds, but there is much more than that if you take the time to look. One such game is that of Boom Boat 2 which takes a slightly different approach to a familiar formula. In Boom Boats 2, you play as the captain of a boat armed with a multitude of weapons: Bombs, magnets, dynamite, and even gnome-eating sharks. It’s your mission to destroy all the underwater Gnomes before they destroy the world. Yes, it’s a silly notion, but makes for a highly amusing game.

Gameplay is very similar to other physics based puzzlers, though a bit different in execution. Basically the Gnomes you need to destroy are underwater along with the buildings they are occupying. You are in a weaponized boat above water. You move the boat left or right to aim and then you drop your weapons below. Use anything from bombs, dynamite barrels, and more to destroy what’s below. It’s a pretty simple game that anyone can pick up and play, but also quite challenging when trying to 3-star each level.

What’s different about trying to 3-star levels here is that it isn’t point based. Instead, you must fulfill each goal set upon in each level to gain the star for it. So each level will have 3 requirements in order to get all 3 stars. You don’t have to do each requirement at the same time either. You can do them individually to gain all 3 stars.

Graphically, it’s a great looking game. It’s very fun and colorful and represents the genre well. Not only that, Boom Boat 2 is quite challenging if you decide to go for all 3 stars on every level, which I’m sure most of you will want to do. Overall, Boom Boat 2 is an excellent addition to the physics based puzzler genre and would make a great addition to anyone’s collection.
