Sparkle Unleashed Review – Marble Shooter Fans Will Enjoy This (iOS)

sparkleunleashed_iconSparkle Unleashed is a brand new marble shooter style game from developer 10tons. If this is your first time hearing about 10tons, then you probably don’t know that they’ve made quite a few Sparkle games in he past, all very successful marble shooters as well. Marble shooters are basically just a different style of match-3 game where marbles are pushed along a path until they get to the end. It’s your job to shoot marbles of similar color and match them in order to have them disappear off the tracks before they reach the end. What makes Sparkle Unleashed different is that instead of having a marble shooter that only rotates around a fixed point, the marble shooter in this game is actually unhinged and can be freely moved along the bottom of the screen.

Gameplay is pretty straightforward. As the marbles come out, they follow a set path. You have to shoot colored marbles at the train of marbles making sure to match them up with same colored marbles. When you make a match of 3 or more, those marbles disappear. If you make three consecutive matches, you can gain power ups, like one that can slow down the marbles or ones that can destroy marbles without matching. AS you progress through the game, you’ll be able to unlock even more powerful power ups to use on your quest.

Graphically, the game looks very good. It has very crisp, realistic graphics, though the color pallet is a tiny bit on the dark side. Audio is also quite nice. There’s nothing too crazy or exciting about it. It has more of a relaxing tone to it which seems to fit well for a game like this.

There’s actually a lot to like about Sparkle Unleashed. I don’t know what the previous games were like in the series, but this one is very solid. The ability to gain power ups as you play is quite nice and I like the fact that you gain them while you play and you don’t have to load up on them before the game starts. I also really like that the game has a back story to it and an actual quest, though many will probably not pay attention to this. You will get 23 levels of play with the free trial version and they can be replayed as many times as you want. If you want to unlock the rest of the game, you’ll have to do a small in-app purchase of $5.99 which will give you the full 108 levels, a new survival mode, and 2 new difficulty levels.
