A lot of you out there are now playing Watch_Dogs, the latest hit from Ubisoft. It’s a fun, open world game that takes place on the streets of Chicago where it’s basically you against the city. Did you know though that you can play as the police and wreck havoc against other players in the game? All you have to do is download the new Watch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile app and you’ll be able to set up 1 versus 1 games against both friends and randoms alike.

The main feature of the ctOS app is to play mobile versus console & PC games. From your mobile phone or tablet, you’ll be able to set up matches against your friends on their consoles or PC. Most of these matches consist of some type of race where your opponent must get from point A to point B while crossing a series of timed checkpoints.

In this game mode, you play as a police helicopter and must keep pace with your opponent. As long as you stay close to your opponent, you’ll gain points that you use to activate ctOS devices in your radius, such as traffic lights, road blockers, steam pipes, and more. Use these to slow down your opponent and cause damage to their vehicle. You can even deploy police cruisers and upgraded units once you start unlocking them in your skill tree. I won’t get too deep into the gameplay as their is actually actually a wonderful tutorial in the game that will explain everything that you should definitely go through when first playing.

There are official game modes and maps you can play on with opponents or you can create your own custom game path. All the e games though are basically the same type which are mainly race style games from point A to point B.

What you will need in order to use the app is a uPlay account. You’ll also need a PSN or Xbox Live account to play against console players. It does not pull your friends’ list from those services though so you will need to add them manually.

If you don’t have any friends, you can choose to play against random players in real time although please note that many of these ransoms end up prematurely exiting the game before they lose which means that you end up not gaining XP from that match, which is something I think that needs to be remedied. You should at least gain XP for the time spend playing before being disconnected. This happens a lot so it makes it very frustrating playing with randoms.

Overall though, the WAtch_Dogs Companion: ctOS Mobile app is a fantastic addition to the world of Watch_Dogs. When it works, it’s very fun and adds something quite unique to the game as a whole if you own the console or PC version. I don’t really suggest playing against randoms too much as it can get frustrating, but playing with friends is a blast.
