Naenka Runner Diver 2 Bone Conduction Headphones Review

Bone conduction headphones are still a fairly niche product but one that I feel is gaining in popularity. As popular as regular headphones and earbuds are, bone conduction headphones have several advantages. The main one is that they are super comfortable and compact. There are several brands that make them now with one of them being Naenka. I haven’t had any experience with them, but they did send over their new Neanka Runner Diver 2 for us to check out. These are made specifically for active individuals, especially those who like to swim.

The Naenka Runner Diver 2 is an open-ear design headphone where the “speakers” sit outside of your ear and rest on your cheekbone. The headband wraps around the back of your head and along the top of your ears. Most of the hardware sits behind and in front of your ear, creating a balanced feel that keeps them feeling comfortable.

While these are very similar to other bone conduction headphones, what makes the Naenka Runner Diver 2 different is that they are made for swimming. That means these are IPX8-rated for waterproofing up to 1M. Not only that, they have built-in storage capacity so you can store up to 32GB of music on them so you can listen to your tunes while you swim without having to have them paired to a smartphone.

In terms of audio quality, the Naenka Runner Diver 2 sounds pretty good. They’re clear with very good highs and mids. The bass isn’t too bad either and certainly doesn’t lose out to regular earbuds. What I find interesting is the inclusion of Sound Quality Enhancers which look like plugs for your ears, except you don’t insert them all the way into the ear canal. They just sit on top of the opening. Wearing them with the Naenka Runner Diver 2 seems to make the music sound louder and richer. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this and it does seem to work. Regardless if you use them or not, I would say the audio quality is quite good.

There are a couple things I don’t like, such as the proprietary charging cable. This also doesn’t come with a case for the headphones and the extra accessories. You have to buy the case separately to hold the headphones, extra Sound Quality Enhancers, the charging/data cable, and the bonus earplugs.

Aside from that, the Naenka Runner Diver 2 is a great choice if you’re looking for bone conduction headphones that can be used for swimming, working out at the gym and casual listening. They sound great and are comfortable to wear. I still prefer something like this over traditional earbuds mainly because earbuds always make my ears hurt after long periods of time and these don’t.
