With plenty of choices when it comes to XBOX controllers, NACON is throwing another into the mix with the release of the NACON Colorlight Wired Gamepad. This is an Officially Licensed for Xbox controller with customizable LEDs, adjustable thumbstick and triggers via app, and more.
DESIGN
The NACON Colorlight Wired Gamepad doesn’t look too different from other Xbox licensed controllers. The basic shape is recognizable with some nice meaty grips and overall has great comfort. The main difference here is the clear shell that lets you see into the controller, lit up by an array of LEDs. Six to be exact.
These light up almost the entire interior of the controller and gives it a really nice glow when playing in dimly lit rooms. You can see the circuit board, motors, stick mechanisms, and wires. It’s actually pretty cool and I’ve always liked when I can see the inside of my gadgets.
Other than that, it’s a fairly standard controller. The NACON Colorlight Wired Gamepad has all the necessary XBOX buttons and triggers, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio. The cable is attached to the controller and can not be removed, though it is braided for durability.
EXPERIENCE
To make the most of the NACON Colorlight Wired Gamepad, you’ll need to download the Pro Compact app from the Microsoft Store. This app allows you to customize the lighting, button mapping, joystick and trigger sensitivity, invert joysticks, change the d-pad layout, and turn on or off the vibration motors. Basically, if you want to customize the controller, you need this ap. Otherwise, you can do without it and it still functions like a regular Xbox controller.
I had no issues using the controller and there’s not really anything else I can say about that. It works as intended as a controller with no lag.
The lighting is pretty neat though and if you don’t download the app, you can still change lighting effects using the lighting buttons on the back of the controller.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The NACON Colorlight Wired Gamepad is an interesting alternative to your standard XBOX controller. The main reasons to pick this up would be that you enjoy some flare with your controllers and want something flashy. It certainly would help you stand out in a crowd and it works just like any other XBOX controller. Pairing it with the app if you’re on PC also means you get some level of customization as well.
