If you are serious about gaming, you’re going to want to pick up a pro controller of sorts. One that allows for customization and programmability of extra buttons. For the Xbox, there are several you can choose from. I’ve used a few from different companies and the latest I’m checking out is the NACON Limited Edition Camo Revolution X Pro controller. This is a pro-grade gamepad featuring both software and hardware customization, customizable back buttons, an extra-long USB-C cable to reduce latency, and works with both Xbox and PC.
DESIGN
The NACON NACON Revolution X Camo controller is similarly shaped to the Xbox controller but feels wider. The grips feel a tad beefier too with a greater dip in the rear which actually makes it feel quite comfortable. The controller is also quite grippy thanks to the soft-touch coating and the grippy textured plastic on the back of the controller.
The front of the controller has a limited edition camo pattern on it. All the standard Xbox buttons are present, though the X, Y, A, and B buttons are larger than normal. The front button layout is good and everything is easy to reach. On the more decorative side, there is an LED ring around the right thumbstick. Not sure why it’s only on this one and not also on the left thumbstick, but it’s neat looking and adds quite a bit of flair.
On the back of the controller, there are four programmable buttons. They’re very easy to reach and I like the design of them. They have a really nice clicky feel to them and seem fairly responsive.
Lastly, on the sticks, you can change the thumb grip style as the kit does include some different grips, but you can’t change the height of them. You can also change the weight of the controller.
EXPERIENCE
To get the most of the NACON Revolution X controller, you’ll need to download the Revolution-X app. There’s a lot you can customize using this app, such as the mapping of the keys, the vibration strength, the sensitivity of the triggers, and lighting effects, and the audio quality. You can also create custom profiles to use and save. The app however is a bit buggy with bits of the menu not working correctly.
However, you don’t need to use the app if you don’t want to and the controller works perfectly fine without it. You can still program the back buttons without the app. The only thing you won’t be able to do is customize the profiles, various button settings, sensitivity, etc.
When it comes to hardware customization, the Revolution X is no slacker. The kit includes different weights to install into the controller to give it a different weighted feel. I like using the heaviest ones. Also, it includes these stick rings that make the sticks have a shorter throw distance. You can also change the thumb grips to different shaped ones.
I also really like that it comes with a carrying case for everything.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The NACON Revolution X Pro Grade Controller is a really good piece of kit. In the limited Camo print, it looks extra cool from the standard white or black you see most controllers in. Not only that, this is a pretty affordable pro-grade controller at around $75. You’re able to customize a lot on this controller, though using the app for this can be a bit frustrating. However, it works fine without the app. I like that the controller feels pretty comfortable for long stretches of gaming, and everything feels pretty responsive.
There isn’t really anything negative to say about the NACON Revolution X Pro Grade Controller other than the janky app. The Camo Edition of this controller is sold exclusively at Walmart. However, you can buy the regular version of this controller below.
