Withings ScanWatch 2 Review

Withings ScanWatch 2

Whether you like it or not, smartwatches and wearable health trackers are still quite popular, especially the Apple Watch. However, not everyone wants a full-blown smartwatch and some just want something that looks good and can keep track of all our daily activity, workouts, and health-related metrics. In my case, I’m still a fan of traditional watches, but I like being able to track my various health stats. That’s why Withings’ line of health-tracking watches has been a favorite of mine. Their newest watch, the Withings ScanWatch 2 takes an already winning formula and improves upon it in every way with even more health-tracking features while still looking like a handsomely designed timepiece.

DESIGN

This is where the Withings ScanWatch 2 really differentiates itself from all the other health trackers and smartwatches out there. Like the original ScanWatch, it just looks like a regular analog watch. You can get it with either a white face or a black face. We chose to go with black face this time which has silver minute marks and hands. The watch face has a chamfered ring around the glass and the body is made of stainless steel (316L). There is nothing plastic on the body at all, so this is a very solid and high-quality product. Even the glass is top-notch as it is made with premium Sapphire glass.

The back of the watch is different now and features a lot more sensors in the center cluster. Not only that, the charging port has moved and is now stealthily integrated into the side of the watch. Not entirely sure how it works but it seems to be using the crown and a little side notch as the charging contacts. The charger is also different and more sturdy and secure.

Speaking of which, there’s only one button here and it’s part of the digital crown. It’s a large digital crown which makes it very easy to use and has a very nice feel when rotating it. On the watch face, you’ll find a new greyscale OLED screen at the top which will show you all your vital health information when selected. For the most part, it stays black unless you wake it, to conserve power.

Other than that, it’s a beautifully designed watch that’s very elegant and handsome. You will not be embarrassed wearing this.

EXPERIENCE

To make the most of the Withings ScanWatch 2, you’ll need to download the Withings Health Mate app on either iOS or Android. This app will manage all key aspects of your health and show detailed information on all metrics collected. You will also use the app to customize whether or not the ScanWatch can receive notifications and what types.

Like the previous ScanWatch, most of the interactions with it are fairly automatic. Most readings are automatically tracked with only a few that require manual measurement. Mainly the ECG measurement requires to be done with both hands and while you’re sitting very still. Workouts also should be entered manually at the start of each one. Other than that, most things are done automatically.

Before I started wearing the ScanWatch 2, the previous ScanWatch was my daily. Meaning I wore that watch and the ScanWatch Horizon variant all the time. They were my go-to watches, not only because they tracked my health stats but because they genuinely looked great. The same goes for the new ScanWatch 2. This will replace the regular ScanWatch for most days since it is a more advanced watch.

Like the previous watches, the battery life on the ScanWatch 2 is superb. Since I’ve been using it, which has been about 3 weeks now, I have only charged it one time. Based on the battery gauge, I probably have another week or so left as it’s currently sitting at about 27%.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Like before, the Withings ScanWatch 2 is a looker and I’ve had several people compliment me on it. They always comment about how they like the fact that it looks like a regular watch and has a little digital screen that only shows necessary information. I think that’s probably the best thing I like bout it. It’s the fact that it just looks like a regular watch and that I don’t need to charge it every other day like other smartwatches.

I also really like that all the health metrics are easy to follow when synced to the Health Mate app and that data can be exported to other apps. You’re even able to export a Health Report as a PDF file so you can share it with your healthcare professional.

So with that said, the Withing ScanWatch 2 is one of the best in terms of health tracking. While it’s not a smartwatch like the Apple Watch, which I’m fine with because I honestly prefer wearing a more traditional watch. The 30-day battery life is a huge plus and it has more than enough health-tracking features to keep me happy.
