Powerextra Wireless Controller for PS3 Review

Powerextra Wireless Controller

Sony doesn’t make wireless controllers anymore for the PlayStation 3. If your official controllers stop working, your only option is to either find refurbished units or buy new third-party controllers. For instance, the Powerextra Wireless Controller is a replacement or an extra controller for your PS3. This is a Bluetooth controller that is compatible with PS3 and PC, and claims to have high performance, ergonomic design, and long battery life. But how does it compare to the official Sony DualShock 3 controller?

DESIGN AND FEATURES

The Powerextra Wireless Controller looks very similar to the DualShock 3, with the same layout of buttons, sticks, and triggers. The controller feels solid and comfortable in the hands, with a smooth and matte finish. The buttons are responsive and tactile, and the sticks have a good grip and sensitivity. The triggers are also well-shaped and easy to press.

The controller has a built-in 500mAh rechargeable battery that can last up to 5 hours of playtime, and 12+ hours of standby time. It also has a motion-sensing, dual shock vibration feature, and a 6-axis gyroscope.

The Powerextra Wireless Controller comes with a USB cable that can be used to charge it or connect it to a PC. It can be paired with the PS3 wirelessly, by pressing the center button for a few seconds and has an LED indicator that shows the battery level and the connection status.

EXPERIENCE

I tested the Powerextra Wireless Controller with several PS3 games, such as Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo 5. It performed well in all of them, with no noticeable lag, dropouts, or interference. It was responsive and accurate, and the motion-sensing and vibration features worked as expected. The controller felt natural and intuitive, and I didn’t have any issues with the button placement or the stick sensitivity.

The only minor complaint I have about the controller is that the battery life is not very long, compared to the DualShock 3. I was able to get about 5-6 hours of playtime before the controller needed to be recharged, which is not bad, but not great either. The controller also takes about 2 hours to fully charge, which is a bit longer than the DualShock 3. However, these are not deal-breakers, and the controller can still be used while charging, if needed.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Powerextra Wireless Controller is a great alternative to the DualShock 3, especially if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option. The controller has a similar design and features, and works well with the PS3. The controller is comfortable, responsive, and reliable, and the motion-sensing and vibration features add more fun and immersion to the games. The only downside is the battery life, which is not very impressive, but still acceptable. Overall, I would recommend the Powerextra Wireless Controller to anyone who needs a new or extra controller for their PS3.
