Nobody’s here to deny that esports is currently massive and already holds a very impressive share of titles – there’s almost limitless choice for the gamers out there who want to make a name for themselves as the best of the best – but we’re only human, and we’d be lying if we said we aren’t already looking to see what’s coming next… because we’re itching to get our hands on it!

We’re not the only ones curious, either; tons of people are already eyeing the charts list and wondering which games will be fortunate enough and brilliant enough to stand out from the crowd and take their place in the glitz and glamor of esports tournaments. We’ve seen some incredible game releases in recent years, including things like Baldur’s Gate 3 – but a great game does not necessarily an esport make! It takes more than this to snag a spot in a tournament and attract a global audience and interesting betting odds.

Nobody’s got a crystal ball on this and there’s no sure way to know (after all, new games are hitting the market all the time and predicting the reception they’ll get isn’t always easy), but we can speculate! We’ve put together some of the top picks that we anticipate storming the stage of esports in the coming years… although only time will tell if we’re right!

Project L

Project L has had the world abuzz since Riot Games first announced it, and it’s looking a seriously strong contender, partly because it’s focused on the League of Legends universe – and LoL is one of the biggest esports games out there. There’s no official release date for Project L yet, but there’ll be a demo at Evo Japan 2024, and there’s already plenty of excitement around it.

By their very nature, esports need to be competitive, and Project L definitely ticks this box; it’s a fighting game that uses 2v2 combat, with two players going up against another two. Some people have compared it to the Smash Brothers series, and it’s got obvious appeal for the mass market.

Will we see it capture the hearts and minds of the esports world and the bettors? It’s hard to say, but certainly, with the LoL foundation, it’s standing on very strong ground and attracting a lot of attention already. We’re not going to lie – being a Riot Games production gives it an extra edge in our opinion.

Fable IV

Long-awaited by fans of the series, Fable 4 is looking like another promising pick for the esports world of the future. We don’t know everything about this game yet, but it has shown some promise in the areas that make a great esport: it’s got exciting combat mechanics, and it involves a good level of strategy from its players – something that all the best esports require.

After all, to be a strong contender in the esports world, a game has to be interesting to watch – and that’s true for Fable 4. Viewers in general and bettors more particularly like to see games that employ strategies, because it makes gambling on a player or team so much more interesting and increases the savvy bettor’s chances of scoring a big win. If it’s all down to chance – well, that can be fun, but it’s much more enjoyable to really get invested in the person you think has the skills to take home the trophy, right?

That’s one of the reasons we think Fable 4 might have what it takes to capture the imagination of esports bettors; it’s quirky, unique, and intricate enough to be engaging. Final Fantasy XVI

You might not think of the Final Fantasy franchise first when it comes to esports – after all, these are usually single-player, story-heavy, detailed games that don’t necessarily lend themselves to competition and taking home the prize. However, this new installment could buck that trend; it offers a real-time combat system that’s intense enough to challenge some of the current esports on offer – and if the developers bring in PvP modes, this could be a dark horse that nobody is expecting.

Of course, that’s a big “if,” but there’s no question that introducing this vast franchise and its fans to the world of esports would be an enormously bold move that would further open up the arena, attract fresh bettors, and shake up the landscape of esports.
