Monoprice has been busy in 2023 with a ton of product coming out of the woodwork. Much of it is also tied to its Dark Matter gaming line which has had some pretty interesting stuff released at excellent prices. This also goes for gaming monitors that have generally been pretty good and well-received. Their latest is a monstrous 49-inch curved monitor (Product # 43305) that is the largest in their lineup and features very good specs at a very affordable price. The Monoprice Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Gaming Monitor is not only built for gaming but is also a fantastic productivity monitor, for those who need the extra real estate.

DESIGN
The Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Gaming Monitor is massive. This is the largest monitor I’ve ever checked out personally and it makes owning multiple monitors a thing of the past. I’ve always been one to have a multi-monitor setup but with this, there just isn’t a need. The size of this equates to having two wide monitors side-by-side and you don’t have to deal with that pesky border in the middle.
Aside from its large stature, the rest of the monitor is pretty basic looking and has a rather toned-down design. The bezels on it are small with the thickest part being at the bottom edge. The rear doesn’t have any crazy designs on it nor does it have any RGB lighting. All the buttons are located on the bottom of the display and are easy to reach and use.
In terms of curvature, this has an 1800R curvature which normally isn’t very curvy, but on something this size, it is fairly noticeable. However, it’s still not as curvy as some other displays that have 1000 or 1200R curvatures.
The rear of the monitor features 2xHDMI and 2xDisplayPorts.

EXPERIENCE
The Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Gaming Monitor is the largest monitor I’ve ever used. You’ll need a desk large enough to hold something this large though the base of the monitor isn’t really that big. Installation doesn’t take much as it’s just the power cord and either an HDMI or DisplayPort cable you’d use. The unit does come with 2xDisplayPort cables.
The color output is really good as is the brightness. The desktop space is insane mainly because of how many windows you can run side by side on this monitor. You’ll never need to run two monitors again with just this one. That makes this monitor incredible for productivity and with the 120Hz refresh rate, everything will look smooth as butter.
Gaming has been mostly positive. The games that support this resolution look really good and you can see more of your game. However, I’ve run across some games that seem to exhibit screen tearing while moving really fast. An example of this would be Destiny 2. Also, the game doesn’t quite seem to move as smoothly and that might be because of the 4ms response time instead of the 1ms response times you see on some other gaming monitors. It doesn’t quite look as good as some other gaming monitors I’ve tested. Then again, Destiny is an odd game when it comes to testing mainly because it behaves in unpredictable ways based on whether it’s running in a window, full screen, or any other number of different factors.
Overall though, the Monoprice Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Monitor is still a very good monitor for the price and despite some small issues with gaming, I think most of that comes down to experimenting with in-game settings to get the best visuals out of this monitor.

FINAL THOUGHTS
To say that the Monoprice Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Monitor is a huge monitor would be an understatement. Most people may never need a monitor this large. This is a niche monitor for those who need something this large, whether it be for productivity or gaming, but you wouldn’t be faulted for picking up something a bit smaller.
While I did enjoy this monitor, I also wish it had some newer tech on it that I’ve seen on some other monitors, such as an integrated hub and USB-C connections. This would make it easier for laptop users so that wouldn’t need to also connect an extra hub along with the monitor.
Aside from that, I’m pretty impressed by the performance of the Monoprice Dark Matter 49-inch Curved Monitor. The colors look great, there’s just the right amount of brightness, and gaming performance is above average for me.
