Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra First Impressions – Huge Upgrade

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

I know you’ve probably seen a lot of first impression videos already or read about the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, but unlike many of those, I bought mine with a trade-in deal and this one wasn’t supplied to me by Samsung. Not only that, many of those first impressions were based on the Titanium Grey variant of the phone whereas mine is the Titanium Violet colorway. This is also my new daily carry as it will replace my Galaxy S21 Ultra which has served me quite well over the last three years with almost no issues and consistent software updates.

We’ll be focusing on the overall design and build of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra in these first impressions with a more in-depth review coming later. I’ll point out again that this will be from the viewpoint of someone who is coming off a much older device.

DESIGN

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes in a very small black box with a small illustration of what’s being held inside. What I like about this though is that the illustration is in the same color as the color I chose. This is a neat way to confirm you got the right color.

Upon opening the box, I was presented with the back of the Galaxy S24 Ultra in all its titanium violet splendor. The color is a lot darker than what most might expect and at certain angles, it looks almost black. To me, it looks amazing, especially with the contrasting titanium trim. Unlike some of the other carrier-only colors, this one doesn’t have a matching frame color. This gives this version of the Galaxy S24 Ultra a uniquely different look from all the others.

Since we’re on the subject of the back, the matte of the rear glass is amazing, mainly because it helps keep the rear clean from fingerprints and smudges. The matte is very similar to my Galaxy S21 Ultra matte, though the completely flat rear glass no longer has a reflection on it. Unlike the curved back on the S21 Ultra, this gives a much cleaner appearance. Also, the Galaxy S21 Ultra was the only Ultra with an integrated camera bump on the back before they decided to go back to the way the Galaxy Note phones looked for the Ultras. While I did love the unique look of those Galaxy S21 Ultra phones, the Galaxy S24 Ultra certainly does look more modern and clean.

This brings me to the front of the phone. I really love this new flat glass. While the curved display on the Galaxy S21 Ultra looked neat when I first got it, I was never really a fan of the curved edges. Mainly because it made some things hard to press on when they were close to the edge and holding sometimes caused accidental presses. Now with the glass being flat, I shouldn’t have that problem anymore. Not only that, the display looks so much bigger not for some reason in comparison.

Lastly, let’s talk about the new titanium frame. I love that it’s in a matte finish and no longer shiny like my last phone. It makes it so much easier to keep clean where I don’t need to worry about finger smudges.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Anyways, that’s pretty much it in terms of first impressions. I really love the way the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra looks in comparison to my old Glaxay S21 Ultra. Switching from that to this is actually a huge change in terms of look and while I loved the overall look of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the Galaxy S24 Ultra just looks so much more modern and functional. the flat screen is just easier to use and look at and the integrated slot for the S-Pen is a huge plus.

I’ll miss my Galaxy S21 Ultra, but I can’t wait to dive deeper into the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
