Withings released an updated version of their Scanwatch line back during the last quarter of 2023, aptly named the Withings ScanWatch 2. The original was already one of my favorite health tracking watches and the updated version only added to my love of it. It added more health-tracking features and tuned the design of the watch a bit to make it more functional while retaining its good looks. They didn’t stop there. They also updated the ScanWatch Horizon, which was their more luxurious version of the watch, with the new model called the ScanWatch Nova. The update added all the new features on the ScanWatch 2 with updated styling, which made it sleeker and more modern-looking.
DESIGN
The Withing ScanWatch Nova can only be described as a health tracker in a class of its own. There really isn’t another watch, aside from the Withings own ScanWatch Horizon, that even comes close to the premium look and feel of this watch. The ScanWatch Nova does make some slight design changes from the previous ScanWatch Horizon. While subtle, the watch does look cleaner and slightly more modern.
What I mean by that is that while it does look overall similar, the dial has been significantly cleaner up with fewer markings and a more polished appearance. It also utilizes a slightly smaller, more modern-looking font for the numbers. The watch also looks a bit thinner and less bulky. The face also seems to be 1mm smaller or so.
The materials on the watch are still top both, utilizing stainless steel and ceramic for the casing while the glass is made of sapphire.
The back of the watch also now matches the newer ScanWatch 2 and features a lot more sensors in the center cluster. Not only that, the charging port has moved and is now stealthily integrated into the side of the watch. However, it doesn’t use the same size charge as the ScanWatch 2 and has its own charger that is included and must be used.
Like all other ScanWatches, everything is controlled using the crown and integrated button. On the watch face, you’ll find a new greyscale OLED screen at the top which will show you all your vital health information when selected. For the most part, it stays black unless you wake it, to conserve power.
The Withings ScanWatch Nova is a beautifully designed watch that draws the attention of anyone who sees it.

The Withings ScanWatch Nova has the same internal specs as the ScanWatch 2. It is packed with advanced tech and sensors to monitor just about every health-related bit you want metrics on. The ScanWatch Nova includes the following:

- (new) improvements to the algorithms and sensors
On the back, you’ll see the new array of sensors in the middle. This includes the new miniaturized heat-flux sensor, and temperature sensor, alongside the heart rate and the accelerometer.
Last up, the battery in the Withings ScanWatch Nova can last up to 30 days depending on usage and features activated.
EXPERIENCE
You’ll need to download the companion app, in this case, it’s the Withings Health Mate app. It is available for iOS and Android. This app will manage all key aspects of your health and show detailed information on all metrics collected. You will also use the app to customize whether or not the ScanWatch can receive notifications and what types.
Like the previous ScanWatch, most of the interactions with it are fairly automatic. Most readings are automatically tracked with only a few that require manual measurement. Mainly the ECG measurement requires to be done with both hands and while you’re sitting very still. Workouts also should be entered manually at the start of each one. Other than that, most things are done automatically.
Like all the ScanWatches, the battery life on the ScanWatch Nova is amazing. The average lifespan of the battery before I need to charge it really is about 30 days. It’s hard going back to any other health-tracking smartwatch because most never last this long between charges and almost all of them don’t look as good as this.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Withings has another winner here with the ScanWatch Nova. That is if you don’t mind paying a premium over the regular ScanWatch 2. At about $600, it isn’t cheap and you’ll get the same performance and health tracking in the less expensive ScaneWatch 2. But what you do get is a watch that looks and feels luxurious, and one that will definitely grab looks. It also comes with quite a few bonus items you don’t get with the ScanWatch 2, such as a watch sizing toolkit and extra straps if you want to switch out the metal band.
It is a really nice-looking watch and I prefer the looks and features more than I would a regular smartwatch. It’s different from the sea of Apple Watches out there and people genuinely are interested in it when they see it. Everyone I’ve shown it to comments on how good it looks and the quality of the materials. That’s more than enough for me to keep this one of the rotating watches I wear.
