Skullcandy EcoBuds Review

Skullcandy EcoBuds

Skullcandy is known for their headphones and earbuds and their latest product is actually something that is quite unique, despite being a product that they make all the time. You see, their new Skullcandy Ecobuds are something truly special. These are created to be green, while not affecting sound quality or good looks. You’re looking at a 50% reduction in EcoBuds’ carbon footprint with 65% recycled plastics and a 57% reduction in heavy metals, compared to other products. Even the package it comes in is 100% recyclable.

So some of the ways that Skullcandy was able to reduce so much material with the Ecobuds are the following. The charging case is really small and only just large enough to hold the earbuds. Much of the case and the earbuds are also made from recycled plastics. The case does not have a battery in them so the case is only used for direct charging when plugged in. The charging cable is also built right into the case which also helps reduce parts needed. Without a built-in battery, it means there is less carbon footprint.

That doesn’t really affect playtime however as the earbuds will get 8 hours of use between charges. Not only that, if you do run out of battery, you can charge them for 10 minutes and still get about 2 hours of playtime.

Now let’s talk about the earbuds. The Ecobuds are really comfortable. The rounded shape of the buds fit really well in my ear grooves and they form a really good seal to achieve passive noise canceling. Controls on the earbuds are touch-based and can be used to control calls, media, and volume. What I like also is that the Ecobods can be used together or solo and the built-in charging cable means you can also connect them to your phone if you run out of charge and charge them like that.

In terms of audio, they sound really good and thanks to the passive noise canceling, they really drown out almost all outside noise. There are even three preset EQ modes that can be utilized by tapping the right earbud. No software is required.

So with that said, these Skullcandy Ecobuds are surprisingly good, considering how inexpensive they are. I love the color they come in and they actually look really good. The small size of the case means they are super easy to carry around with you and the built-in cable means you can charge them at any time by just plugging into your phone. I love what Skullcandy did with these and it just goes to show that you can do some amazing things with recycled materials and reduced materials.
