The Palmer by The James Brand is a bit different from all their other releases. While still considered an everyday carry (EDC), this isn’t a traditional pocket knife. Instead, this is The James Brand’s stylish take on a utility knife, one that is not only easier to carry but retains the functionality of a traditional utility knife.
There are two versions of The Palmer. One utilizes an aluminum handle while the other features a clear recycled PTCG. We got our hands on the Clear Turquoise color with stainless steel hardware.

What I like about The Palmer is the size. It’s small and thin but easy to grip and can fit comfortably in your pocket. It uses a patented sliding mechanism that feels smooth and locks at full open and close. What makes the mechanism so special, though, is that it allows for tool-free access to the blade. You just need to extend the blade mechanism halfway, and the blade can be pulled right out. This is very useful for changing the blade.
Speaking of which, this uses standard utility knife blades, which can be found almost anywhere. That’s great because I have a box of other branded utility knife blades I can use with The Palmer. Not only that, but the Palmer also seems to be travel friendly and can pass through TSA. All you need to do is just toss the blade and pick up another blade when you get to your destination.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Palmer is the perfect EDC for those who don’t normally want to carry around a pocket knife. I say this because you really don’t know how useful a knife is until you actually need one, and you don’t have one. I’m constantly cutting open boxes, cutting tape, and occasionally other random items, so it’s nice to have this handy. Not only that, this might be safer than a traditional pocket knife and can be used completely one-handed.
While The Palmer might cost much more than a regular utility knife, you can’t deny the elegance and beauty of its design. This is one of the nicest utility knives out there, and it fits in your pocket.
