PNY 1.5TB PRO Elite Prime and Performance Prime Card Reader Review

PNY

You may have seen PNY products at your favorite local retailer, and the reason for that is that they provide quality products at affordable prices. I’ve used several PNY storage products in the past and have been pretty satisfied with their reliability and quality. That’s why when they offered up their latest PNY 1.5TB PRO Elite Prime microSDXC card in the largest size they’ve ever made, I jumped at the chance to check it out. Along with the card, they also sent over their PNY Performance Prime Card Reader so we could make the most out of the new card.

PNY PRO Elite Prime Flash Card

The PNY PRO Elite Prime microSDXC card is the highest-capacity storage microSD card that PNY makes. It features next-level performance and extreme speeds of up to 200MB/s read and up to 150MB/s write when used in conjunction with the PNY Performance Prime Card Reader, which we’ll talk about a bit later.

This is a U3-rated card that features V30 Video Speed and is equipped with A2 Application Performance. What that means is you get super-fast read and write speeds for activities such as 4K Ultra HD video recording or faster application launching and performance when running games.

So, what are we using the PRO Elite Prime microSD card with? A gaming console, of course, and in this case, it’s a Nintendo Switch Lite. My previous card was a PNY XLR8 card, and it worked flawlessly the entire time I had it. So the PRO Elite Prime should be no different, with much more storage. Transferring data between the old card and the new card did take some time due to how many games I had stored, but not as much time as I would have thought. But now, I have tons of free storage now for all my digitally downloaded games.

PNY Performance Prime Card Reader

The PNY Performance Card Reader is for those who do not have a built-in microSD card reader for their computer. This is a USB 3.2 Gen 1 reader that is meant to extract the most speed out of the PRO Elite Prime flash card. With its sleek, metal design, it is built to handle the hand up to 200MB/s read and up to 150MB/s write. It is compatible with most USB 3.2 Gen 1/USB 3.0 laptop & desktop computers and backward compatible with USB 2.0 at USB 2.0 speeds.

It’s very small and easy to carry.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The PNY PRO Elite Prime microSDXC card is probably the last card I’ll ever need for my Switch. With about 1.5TB of space, I can’t see myself ever running out of storage. As far as I can tell, this is a decently fast card and it was very simple for me to transfer all my data between my old card to the new card.

Hopefully, it will hold up over time to multiple read-and-write uses and, at the very least, remain my permanent storage solution for my Nintendo Switch. It’s better to have more storage than not enough.
