CRKD is a brand best known for their premium gaming gear with a twist. The twist is that each one of their products is billed as collectibles. While their most known product is the Nitro Deck, I’ll be looking at the CRKD Atom, a one-of-a-kind keychain controller compatible with Nintendo Switch, PC/Mac, Android, iOS, tablets, and Smart TV gaming. At the moment, the CRKD Atom is available in eight different colorways, each limited in number.

The version of the CRKD Atom I received is the Glacier Blue color, which is basically a transparent blue with pink shoulder buttons and black face buttons. By downloading the CRKD app to my phone, I could register the controller and view the rarity of it. In my case, this was number 1650 of 5006 with a Rarity Rank of CRKD. CRKD is the highest rarity and the rank is based on the product number the controller receives during manufacturing.
Aside from the collectible aspect of the controller, the CRKD Atom does function quite well as a controller. Sure, it’s small and a bit awkward to hold, but the controls are solid and work in a pinch. For me, I tried it with my Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Duckstation emulator. Because it emulates PS1, the CRKD Atom was perfect for it. I was able to map all the buttons and all the game I played ran smoothly with it.

What I also like is how portable the CRKD Atom is. This is the smallest controller I’ve ever used, and the fact that I can just throw it in my pocket means I can have a controller with me wherever I go. Sure, it doesn’t have analog joysticks on it, but it works great for portable gaming on my phone.
With that said, the CRKD Atom is interesting indeed. It may seem like a novelty at first, but it’s actually a really good controller. The size makes it highly portable, more so than any other controller out there. Not only that, using it is still better for mobile gaming than using touchscreen controls. The collectible aspect is cool, too, and hopefully, they can keep this up and come out with even more unique accessories in the future.
