CRKD Nitro Deck+ for Nintendo Switch – Clear White Edition Review

CRKD Nitro Deck+

CRKD’s most popular product in their lineup has to be the CRKD Nitro Deck. The Nitro Deck is a controller add-on for the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED Model that completely transforms the handheld into something more. As popular as that was, CRKD released the all-new Nitro Deck+, which builds upon its predecessor with a host of new and improved features based on community feedback. Built for casual gaming or competitive play, the CRCD Nitro Deck+ is a must-have for all Switch fans.

We all know that while the Nintendo Switch JoyCons are innovative and versatile, they’re not exactly the best controllers out there. Constant complaints about joystick drift are common and the only way to really fix this is to not use them and instead use a controller that features Hall Effect sticks that eliminate drift. However, not everyone wants to carry around an extra bulky controller with them, so why not get the CRKD Nitro Deck+ instead?

The Nitro Deck+ is almost like a whole new console, minus the display. Remove the JoyCons from your Switch and slide the main unit into the Nitro Deck+. Once on, it snaps into place and is secured via clips on the inside. The look is almost seamless and if you didn’t know any better, you’d think this was some fancy new console.

CRKD Nitro Deck+

So what makes the Nitro Deck+ such a game changer? For starters, both the left and right joysticks get upgraded with Hall Effect joysticks for zero stick drift. CRKD also went with the symmetrical layout for the joysticks as opposed to the asymmetrical layout on the original JoyCons. This is supposed to help with comfort. Adding to the comfort are the beefy molded hand grips. Ergonomically, the Nitro Deck+ setup feels much more comfortable to use than any stock Switch. Aside from that, there are also two additional buttons on the upper sides that function as A and B, but can be reprogrammed.

Moving on to the back, we get four programmable back buttons, an integrated kickstand, and a charging port. Not only that, the Nitro Deck+ moves the USB-C port from the bottom of the Switch to the top with an additional output USB-C port for video out and USB controllers while charging.

Other enhancements that can’t be seen include motion gyros, adjustable trigger sensitivity, adjustable vibration feedback, and turbo mode. Most of these need to be adjusted via the CRKD app on your mobile phone. Like other CRKD products, you’ll also need the app to register your Nitro Deck+ to figure out its rarity and product number.

In terms of usage, the Nitro Deck+ makes the Nintendo Switch a better handheld version of itself. The sticks and buttons are super responsive, and obviously, the lack of stick drift is huge. Speaking of which, this does make your Switch so much larger, but at the same time, also much more comfortable to hold. I like that this makes the Switch a single unit still without having to fudge with a separate controller for the same advantages. Lastly, I like how solid everything feels. It’s a lot less fragile feeling than using attached JoyCons as controllers.

CRKD Nitro Deck+

With that said, the CRKD Nitro Deck+ is the ultimate accessory for your Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED. It completely transforms your Switch into something that feels more like a solid handheld with many upgraded features. Not only that, but pricing honestly isn’t that bad at all. At the time of this review, you’re looking at about $59.99 for it, which is comparable to purchasing a regular controller.

Note that like with other CRKD products, each variant of the Nitro Deck+ is limited, so if there’s an edition you want to get, grab it while it’s available.
