Ring Battery Doorbell Review

Ring Battery Doorbell

Over the holidays, Amazon had a fantastic deal on the Ring Battery Doorbell, and I decided to pick one up to replace what I was currently using. I picked this up in the Venetian Bronze color to match my door. This is a color you don’t normally see, as most people opt for the Nickle color. I did not pick up any extra accessories for this and just used whatever came in the box for installation.

First, let’s talk specs on this. The big feature with the Ring Battery Doorbell is the Head-to-Toe video. This allows for more viewing area, not just side-to-side, but up and down. The camera also comes equipped with 2K (1440×1440) resolution, two-way talk, motion detection, and a rechargeable battery.

Installation is a breeze too. It comes with a mount that requires you to screw it into the surface you are placing the doorbell on, though I modified it with double-sided tape. There is an optional No-Drill mount, but it’s an extra $20 I didn’t want to spend. You will want to charge the Ring Battery Doorbell first before using it, as well as download the Ring app and create an account on there. After which, you can add the Ring Battery Doorbell to your account and start using it from there. Note that the doorbell does require a 2.4GHz wireless connection.

In terms of usage, there’s a lot to like about the Ring Battery Doorbell. I like being notified when the camera detects motion in front of it and the ability to set those motion zones and their sensitivity. You also have the ability to talk to anyone via live video and two-way talk and record all of it. However, there are some features that will be locked away via a monthly subscription.

I’m okay with the features that come free without a subscription, as it gives me pretty much everything I need. If I ever decide to subscribe, I can do so later.

Aside from this, I’m happy with the video quality, especially how good the color of the night vision looks. Usually, night vision on most cameras is in black and white, but having it in color looks so much better and more natural. It’s also more useful and gives you more detailed information.

Anyways, that’s pretty much it. So far, it works so much better than my previous doorbell camera and seems more reliable. I like that it also integrates with my smart garage door opener, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. In the future, I may also consider adding the optional Ring Chime accessory so everyone in the household can hear when someone rings the doorbell, and not just me on my phone or whoever installs the app.
