SOUNDPEATS PearlClip Pro Review

SOUNDPEATS released a set of brand new earbuds during CES 2025 that are unlike anything they’ve released in the past. The SOUNDPEATS PearlClip Pro are lightweight, open-ear earbuds that clip onto your ear, as opposed to inserting it into your ear or having a bulky over-the-ear design like other open-ear earbuds. These feature 12mm dual-magnetic drivers, open soundstage, a charging case, and 6 hours of usage per charge with 18 additional hours with the case.

DESIGN

The SOUNDPEATS PearlClip Pro aren’t the first clip-on open-ear earbuds I’ve seen before, and it probably won’t be the last. The fact is that open-ear designs are just much more comfortable to wear then in-ear earbuds. Not only that, this design allows you to hear the world while still being able to hear your music.

Back to the design, my daughter described these as tiny headphones. In essence, that’s what they do look like. Tiny headphones that clip around your ear with the main bulge pointed directly into your ear canal and the secondary bulge on the back to help keep the PearlClip Pro in place.

Putting them on does take a little but of fiddling with, but once you figure out the proper way to wear them, clipping them on your ear is no problem. You can tell which side goes where because the part that goes into your ear is bigger than the part that clips to the back of your ear.

Moving on to the included case, it isn’t that much larger than your average standard earbud case, and it is still very pocketable. It charges via USB-C port and has a button the font to check how much charges is left on the case.

Overall, the design is pretty nice. I like the shiny, dark gunmetal look that almost makes it look like a black pearl, along with the matte rubber.

EXPERIENCE

This was my first experience with clip-on style open-ear earbuds, and if you’ve never seen one of these before, the SOUNDPEATS PearlClip Pro is a bit weird-looking. I recommend reading the instructions, so you know the proper way to wear them, and even then, comfort may depend on your ear shape. For me, they didn’t feel too bad, but they definitely do take some getting used to. They feel lightweight and I appreciate that they don’t go into my ear canal, which is a main pain point for me with regular earbuds.

What is surprising is the sound quality. These sound just as good as traditional earbuds with a very good amount of bass. Volume output is quite good, and these can get pretty loud. The custom EQ lets you tailor the sound based on your music taste. Much of the advanced modes need to be set in the PeatsAudio app. This is also where you would go to update the firmware.

You can control your audio and the various modes using the touch controls on the PearlClip Pro, though I normally turn these off as I find them to be a little annoying at times. They do work, I just don’t like using them.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The question is, are these better than traditional earbuds? The answer to that is, I’m not sure. The SOUNDPEATS PearlClip Pro is definitely different, and some people may love them, and some people may hate them. What I know is that the fit of earbuds is very personal. There are all different shapes and sizes of earbuds, and everyone has their favorite. These clip-on style earbuds are still very new so if you’re feeling adventurous, I’d definitely give these a try. You just might like them, and at the very least, you got a pair of earbuds that sound great.
