Amazfit Helio Strap Review

Amazfit Helio Strap

The Amazfit Helio Strap enters the crowded fitness tracker market with a clear mission: to provide athletes of all levels with advanced fitness and recovery insights without the distractions of a screen or the limitations of a subscription model. Designed to seamlessly integrate with the Amazfit ecosystem, particularly through the Zepp App, this strap aims to offer best-in-class data accuracy and all-day comfort, helping users train smarter, recover better, and perform at their peak. It promises uninterrupted data collection whether you’re training, sleeping, or resting, even when your smartwatch is off, addressing a common pain point for serious athletes.

DESIGN

At first glance, the first thing that comes to mind about the Amazfit Helio Strap, is how similar it looks to the WHOOP. However, that quickly disappears once you get a closer look at the minimalist and lightweight design. Its main focus is entirely on functionality and comfort. It comes in a few color variations, including Black, White/Gray, and Gray/Black. With dimensions of 339774.1×10.9mm (without the heart rate base) and a mere 20g weight (without the strap), it’s designed to be unobtrusive.

The body is constructed from fiber-reinforced polymer, ensuring durability while maintaining a lightweight profile. It features a 5 ATM water-resistance grade, making it suitable for various activities, including swimming. The strap itself is made of nylon, with a width of 22mm, and accommodates wrist dimensions from 145-205mm. It is secured with a convenient hook & loop fastening system that is easy to put on and adjust. This design choice emphasizes comfort for prolonged wear and is crucial for continuous data collection during activity and rest.

Other than that, there’s not much to it. There’s no display and no “smart” features in order to keep the experience distraction-free.

EXPERIENCE

The core of the Amazfit Helio Strap’s experience lies in its advanced health and workout tracking capabilities, all managed through the Zepp App. The Amazfit Helio Strap features the BioTracker 6.0 PPG biometric sensor, featuring a dual-LED and 5PD build. This sophisticated sensor delivers highly precise health and fitness data, encompassing heart rate, training status, sleep quality, and fatigue assessment. The continuous data collection, even when a connected smartwatch is off, is a significant advantage, ensuring no gaps in your recovery and performance metrics.

A standout feature is the BioCharge score. This personalized metric adapts daily based on your workouts, activities, and stress levels. A low score serves as a clear indicator to prioritize rest or a nap, helping you actively manage your recovery and optimize your body’s readiness for the next challenge. This real-time feedback, coupled with AI-powered recommendations, empowers users to make informed decisions about their training and recovery.

The Zepp App sets a target Exertion score each day, tailored to your personal recovery. It even recommends workouts to help you achieve this score, providing a structured approach to daily training. The strap supports 27 workout modes, manually engaged from the Zepp App. This includes a smart Strength Training mode that can auto-detect 25 exercise variations, and even an official HYROX Race mode, catering to a wide range of athletic pursuits. Users can cut out the guesswork with specialized performance data like VO2 max, training load, training effect, and recovery time after every workout.

The Amazfit Helio Strap boasts impressive battery life, lasting up to 10 days with typical use and up to 25 days in Battery Saver Mode from a single charge. This extended battery life contributes significantly to the “uninterrupted data collection” promise, reducing the need for frequent charging and ensuring continuous monitoring.

Amazfit positions the Helio Strap as part of a fully integrated training system within the Amazfit Ecosystem. By seamlessly connecting with smartwatches (like the Balance 2) and other devices through the Zepp App, it aims to eliminate data gaps and provide a holistic view of performance and recovery. This integrated approach, combined with accurate monitoring and AI-powered recommendations, is designed to help users train smarter and recover better.

I should point out that while you don’t need a subscription for the Amazfit Helio Strap, there are features that are locked unless you subscribe to the Premium membership. Mainly, ZEPP Aura is locked away, which provides sleep reports and analysis as well as meditation and relaxation tools. In my opinion, not needed and you still get a ton of info without this.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Amazfit Helio Strap is designed for athletes seeking in-depth, continuous fitness and recovery data without the bulk of a smartwatch or the ongoing cost of a subscription*. Its focus on accurate biometric tracking, intelligent recovery metrics like BioCharge, and comprehensive workout analysis makes it a powerful tool for optimizing performance. The comfortable, screen-less design ensures it can be worn continuously, filling in data gaps that might occur when a smartwatch is removed.

While its full potential is realized within the broader Amazfit ecosystem via the Zepp App, its core functionality as a dedicated data collector for serious athletes is quite robust. The long battery life is a definite plus, supporting its goal of uninterrupted monitoring. For those committed to understanding and improving their training and recovery, the Amazfit Helio Strap offers a sophisticated and user-friendly solution.
