THINKWARE never stops improving its line of dash cams, which is why you see existing models return with new naming. One such item is the THINKWARE U3000 Pro. While both the U3000 and U3000 Pro share the same foundation, the U3000 Pro delivers a critical improvement that makes all the difference in a premium dual-channel setup: the rear camera. The previous U3000 featured an older Sony STARVIS sensor on the rear, but the U3000 Pro upgrades this to the Sony STARVIS 2 technology (IMX675). This change transforms the rear camera from merely a backup recording device into a reliable 2K QHD camera with exceptional low-light performance.

DESIGN
In terms of aesthetics, the Thinkware U3000 Pro retains the brand’s signature wedge-shaped design, which is purpose-built to sit discreetly against the windshield, minimizing its visibility both to the driver and to potential thieves. It maintains a low-profile, sleek matte black finish.
While the overall footprint remains largely similar to its predecessor, the Pro model is slightly longer/deeper (102.6 mm vs. 98.1 mm) to accommodate the internal upgrades. Crucially, the external physical change that matters most for the user is on the side: the addition of a USB-C port. This new port is the key to the U3000 Pro’s modularity, allowing you to connect either the optional LTE Module or the Interior Infrared Cabin Camera.
The mounting system remains a strength, utilizing an adhesive cradle designed for exceptional mounting stability that resists road vibrations. The main unit can still be easily detached from the mount, which is a great anti-theft feature. Finally, THINKWARE includes a Circular Polarizing Lens (CPL) Filter right in the box, a small but significant accessory that reduces glare and reflections on the dashboard, ensuring clearer recordings without the need for an extra purchase.

EXPERIENCE
The THINKWARE U3000 Pro provides a similar out-of-the-box experience as their other dash cams. All the hardware you need to install it is included in the box, including the OBD-II Power Cable. I found the installation process to be surprisingly easy, thanks to the straightforward adhesive mounting and intuitive cable management design.
The initial setup is simplified dramatically by Bluetooth pairing. Once your phone connects via Bluetooth, the THINKWARE DASH CAM LINK app guides you through connecting to the main unit’s built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi. This dual-band connection is a huge quality-of-life upgrade, as it allows for file downloads faster than standard 2.4GHz connections, a crucial factor when pulling down large 4K video files after an incident. The app interface itself is intuitive, making it easy to adjust settings, update firmware, and review footage on the fly.
On the road, the U3000 Pro performs as expected from a THINKWARE product. The 4K front camera captures stunning detail, while the included CPL filter effectively manages sun glare and dashboard reflections. In the rear, the upgrade to the rear sensor means the nighttime footage from the back is noticeably brighter and cleaner, effectively reducing the noise and graininess.
Another cool feature of the U3000 Pro is the updated Radar Parking Mode. By monitoring proximity only, the radar system keeps the camera in a low-power state, allowing the parking mode to last far longer than traditional systems that record constantly. It only “wakes up” and records when movement is detected, giving you a 20-second clip of the critical event. Also, if paired with the optional LTE Module, you receive an instant push notification on your phone if an impact is detected while parked. You can even remotely check on your vehicle using the Remote Live View feature, turning the dash cam into a professional, connected security system for your vehicle.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Thinkware U3000 Pro is more than just a minor incremental update; it addresses the few areas where its predecessor left room for improvement. By upgrading the rear camera to a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor and implementing Dual HDR processing, Thinkware has elevated the U3000 Pro to a truly, high-performance system capable of capturing crystal-clear evidence both day and night. Aside from the picture quality, adding the 3rd channel makes the U3000 Pro a lot more versatile, where you can add the optional LTE module or interior camera. Overall, this is one of the most feature-packed dash cams THINKWARE makes right now.
