PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S – PAC-MAN SE Review

PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S - PAC-MAN SE

When it comes to Xbox and PC compatible controllers, my controllers of choice usually come from PowerA. In fact, my go-to controllers are either the PowerA Fusion Pro or the PowerA OPS V3. Both controllers are solid and feature the latest tech PowerA has to offer. With that said, we’re checking out another PowerA controller that might not be part of their more advanced lineup, but has a ton of the same features. It’s the PAC-MAN SE PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S.

DESIGN

So the PAC-MAN SE PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S seems to me a Frankenstein of several of their controllers. Mainly, the parts that are in yellow are similar to what’s on the Fusion line of controllers, while the face looks like it comes from their regular Advantage Plus lineup but with an additional cutout for the headset dial.

Let’s start with the face. This is one of the best-looking controllers I’ve seen in a while. The matte black face with the PAC-MAN graphic is phenomenal. I love the blue and yellow accents, as well as the small touches, such as the PAC-MAN font used for the action buttons. Not only that, but the graphics also glow in the dark and have a secondary glow when viewed under a black light.

Moving the the rear, it’s primarily all PAC-MAN yellow with many of the buttons accented in blue. The grips have this rubbery feel, but also have tiny PowerA logos etched into them. The same little PowerA logos are also found on the shoulder buttons and triggers.

Lastly, this is an Xbox-style controller, so it’s very comfortable to hold.

SPECS

The PAC-MAN SE PowerA Wireless Controller is no ordinary controller. This thing is packed with great features. For starters, it features the highly sought-after Hall Effect sticks and triggers. These magnetic sensors offer a more seamless experience, enhancing precision and longevity. The controller is also natively wireless for Xbox Series X|S, but will require the low-latency wireless USB adapter for use with PC. There’s also dual rumble motors, magnetic impulse triggers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB port for charging or plugging in the 10ft included cable to play wired.

On the back, you get four programmable buttons, 3-way trigger locks, and a profile button to switch between 3 different profiles.

In terms of the battery, you’ll get roughly 30 hours of playtime between charges.

EXPERIENCE

Since I already use a PowerA controller as my main controller, jumping in with the PAC-MAN SE PowerA Wireless Controller was a breeze. The sticks, triggers, and buttons all feel like PowerA’s more powerful Fusion line, and in terms of features, it doesn’t really lose out. The only features really missing are the adjustable sticks for height and wireless charging. For most people though, the Hall Effect sticks and triggers are more than enough.

For those who want more customization, the PowerA Gamer HQ app for PC is compatible with this controller. This lets you customize and fine-tune various aspects of the controller, such as deadzones, vibration settings, audio settings, calibration, and more. While it’s not needed for on the fly button remapping, it is a helpful app for fine tuning.

Lastly, if you’re playing on PC, you’ll need to use the wireless USB adapter, though if you want, you can also used the controller wired to your PC.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I was really surprised by the PAC-MAN SE PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S. Yes, the design is amazing, but I wasn’t expecting it to have as many professional features as it does. Hall Effect sticks and triggers are a must, and the inclusion of 4 programmable back buttons is a huge bonus! Not to mention the inclusion of the 3-way trigger locks and dual rumble motors. This has almost everything a gamer would want in a controller, including a sick design that makes others envious.
