AI note-taking is hugely popular these days. Why take your own notes if AI can do it for you? Not only can AI transcribe your meetings, but it can also summarize them for you. While there are a ton of software solutions for this, there are also several hardware solutions that let you record without a computer or phone, letting you record any situation when needed, and then transcribing and summarizing later. The Mobvoi TicNote is one such device and one that should just be carried with you at all times. It’s small and incredibly versatile.

DESIGN
The Mobvoi TicNote is a credit card-sized device that can fit in your wallet or in the included MagSafe compatible case. The device is about the thickness of two credit cards stacked on top of each other, and you activate it by pressing down on the button at the top. There’s a little toggle switch up top to switch between Speaker Mode and Earphone Mode, and what differentiates this from other note-taking devices of similar design is the Device Status Display.
This display shows current activity status along with other useful information at a glance.
Charging is done via a proprietary magnetic charger which plugs into any standard USB charger.

EXPERIENCE
For starters, the Mobvoi TicNote hardware is very nice. The inclusion of the Device Status Display is a huge plus, showing you exactly what mode you’re in, when the device is recording, and battery life.
Aside from that, the rest of the experience is all software based using the TicNote app on your device, once you have downloaded the recording from the TicNote to your phone. Transfers can be done via Bluetooth, which can be slow if the files are large, or via WiFi Fast Transfer, which requires connecting to the device as a WiFi hotspot.
So what can the TicNote app do? If can do the following:
- Summaries & Action Items: This is a killer feature. A three-hour meeting recording can be boiled down into a concise summary and a list of actionable key points in minutes. It significantly cuts down on review time, allowing me to focus on the next step instead of the past discussion.
- Deep Research & Aha Moments: The ability to use the AI to ask questions across multiple recordings and generate “Deep Research Reports” is truly powerful. It turns your entire library of notes into a searchable knowledge base. The “Aha Moments” feature, which proactively gives smart insights, has genuinely surprised me with its usefulness on more than one occasion.
- Customization: The app allows you to apply professional templates (like meeting minutes or research outlines) to your summaries, giving the AI’s output instant structure for your specific field.
I should note that the TicNote does require a subscription, but there’s a free tier that allows for 600 minutes of free transcriptions per month and a some other limitations. However, most of the features are included in the free plan and you would really only upgrade if you need more transcription minutes and AI chat. Other than that, try the free tier first.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Of these card-sized AI note takers, the TicNote has a great combination of hardware and software. While it would be nice to have this be a 1 device solution, I can see why they’d do this, whether it be for battery life, or just so the device can be tiny and utilize the power of your phone for all the power-hungry AI stuff. Regardless, the hardware is solid and easy to use.
In terms of software, I’ve had experiences with other similar devices with almost the same software, and the TicNote offers more without having to actually have a paid subscription. What that means is that I’ll be using this a lot more than the other one I had mainly because I don’t have to pay for a subscription to get almost all the features.
