Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Trailer

Castlevania by Konami was a franchise that I grew up with as a child. I remember playing Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, and Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse on the Nintendo entertainment System. I remember how hard these games used to be for me to play but also how much fun I had at the same time. I even think that Castlevania may have been what got me hooked on monster movies as a child.

It would be many years before I played another Castlevania game in the form of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow on the Nintendo DS which also happens to be the first time I actually finished a Castlevania title. That was 3 years ago.

On October 5th, 2010, Konami will be releasing a brand new Castlevania title called Castlevania – Lord of Shadow. Unlike other titles, this one will not be making an appearance on a Nintendo platform. It will only be available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The above trailer is from this game and it looks amazing. I’m actually pretty surprised that I haven’t seen more of this game in the recent year of its development.

Castlevania – Lords of Shadow is a dark and vivid new re-imagining of the Castlevania mythology.

In Castlevania: Lords of Shadow gamers play as Gabriel Belmont, voiced by Robert Carlyle, the hero of the game and part of the legendary Belmont clan from Castlevania lore. While in-human creatures of the night wreak havoc on the land, the soles of the dead are trapped on Earth and unable to find peace. Gabriel must track down the mysterious Lords of Shadow in order to unite the pieces of a relic called “The God Mask” that can purify the world and has the power to bring the dead back to life. Along Gabriel’s journey gamers will traverse over 50 diverse and beautifully realized 3D stages, come up against over 45 enemies, and defeat huge adversaries in real time with skill, power and timing. In total, the game boasts over 40 possible combo attacks that can be added to Gabriel’s arsenal. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow offers a wide range of puzzles with larger adversaries that require a specific means to exploit weaknesses, or object-related puzzles that will open doors or give access to previously unreachable areas.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will be available on October 5 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

  1. I am looking forward to this game immensely. Even though the previous two 3D castlevania games had rather dismal ratings, I actually loved them. Lament of Innocence had a great story. I enjoyed learning about the creation of the Vampire Killer. In Curse of Darkness I was quite pleased with having a buddy ai fight with me. Pumpkin is the coolest. I’m hoping this game does not disappoint!
