Tiki Toss 3D by Mellow Militia is challenging as it is relaxing. Based on the classic island hook-and-ring game, players are challenged with trying to swing a tiny ring onto a hook that is placed several feet away. It’s not easy task.

Tiki Toss 3D has 3 modes of play. There is Best of 10, session, and arcade. Best of 10 you basically try to see how many times you can hook the ring in 10 tries. Session is basically endless mode where you see how many times in a row you can do it. Arcade mode gives you 20 tries to get the highest score. Players can also choose from two levels of difficulty – amateur and pro. Most people will want to play on amateur as pro is quite hard but much more realistic.

Arcade is the funnest of the modes. In arcade mode, you get 20 tries to get the highest possible score. During play, you will get score bonuses as well as double or nothing chances. This allows for some very high scoring. I’ve only been able to score a high of 36 but I’ve seen much higher scores on the leaderboards.  Scoring is all tracked by the OpenFeint service.

What I love about Tiki  Toss is how simple the core game is to play. All you do is swipe the ring towards the target. You let physics take care of the rest. The gameplay is very realistic and you never feel like the game is cheating you. The atmosphere of the game also lends well to Tiki Toss 3D as the island scenery is quite relaxing and there is nothing to distract you from it. The music too is the same way. Very island themed and mellow. In fact, everything about this game is mellow. This is not a fast paced game. It is a slow, relaxing game that is fun to play.

I can tell you that Tiki Toss 3D is very family friendly. My 4 year old son was able to pick up the game fairly quickly on casual play and was quite excited each time he hooked the ring. It’s always a plus in my book when my kid enjoys certain games that can keep him coming back for more.

Final Thoughts

Tiki Toss 3D on a whole is a very simple concept of a game but the execution here is flawless. Not only are the touch controls for Tiki Toss 3D very responsive, but it actually does feel like I am swinging this ring around. The game itself is very challenging as it is not easy feat trying to get this tiny ring onto a hook but I can tell you that this game is very fun to play. I do wish that the game had some different scenery choices just to give it more variety but the lack of it certainly doesn’t hurt the game at all. I’d like to also see GameCenter support in the future as well.

Tiki Toss 3D is available starting today in the App Store for 99 cents. I highly recommend this game to all as a very fun and relaxing game that is also very challenging and competitive. Well worth the price for such and addicting game.
