Review: Shoot to Kill: Addictive as Hell v1.0 (iOS)

Warning: This is a mature game that is rated 12+ due to mature themes and violence. There’s is quite a bit of blood in the game and creatures from Hell so I don’t really recommend this for young children.

Shoot to Kill by Vivid Games and Tower Studios is a top down survival horror shooter where you must battle your way through Hell in order to escape its depths. Unlike other shooters where your character can roam the level freely, Shoot to Kill confines you within a protective pentagram in the center of the screen while demons from Hell come at you from all sides. In order to shoot them, all you do it tap in the direction of the enemy and you’ll shoot in that direction, multiple taps for multiple shots. The game itself can get really hectic so it’s probably better that you only need to worry about where to shoot and not where to move.

In terms of gameplay, Shoot to Kill is a very solid game. The gameplay itself might seem simple, but that simplicity works best especially with tons of demons coming at you from all directions. Your reflexes have to be like lightning in this game because you can get surrounded quickly if you aren’t fast enough. Luckily you can earn upgraded weapons that will help clear the horde if they start to over run your protected area. Enemies in the game are all pretty varied. Each have their own weaknesses and certain weapons work better again certain enemies so it’ll be beneficial to you to learn what each weapon does and which enemies they work best against. The game can also be quite difficult as you progress through the levels but if you take your time and really learn the ins and out of how to regain health and how to use weapons correctly, you’ll be on your way to victory in no time.

Shoot to Kill includes Game Center support so you’ll get to keep track of achievements and compare score with your friends. There is also multiplayer support but you need to be in range of other players who have the game. It doesn’t support online multiplayer sessions. I couldn’t test this mode out as no one I know had this game at the time.

There really isn’t much I would change about Shoot to Kill. It’s pretty good the way it is. It has a very old school  “Doom” feel to it but presented in a different manner. I would suggest to have multiplayer enabled over internet though so I could play with my Game Center friends.

Shoot to Kill is available in the App Store now for $0.99. It’s also available for the iPad in a HD version which you can get here for $1.99. Oh, and just in case you didn’t read the warning before the review, this game is rated 12+. It’s no intended for young children as it contains mature themes and quite a bit of violence and blood.
