TGWK’s Review of “One Single Life” v1.2 (iOS)

One Single Life from developer FreshTone Games is a game about risk and whether or not you’re willing to take that risk. You see, in One Single Life, you are given just one life to complete the game. If you die, that’s it and its game over. There are no redo’s however. Once you die, you die. You can not play the game again. It’s an interesting concept especially since most of the time, you want your users to keep coming back to play the game and if you die in this game, there really is no coming back. The object of One Single Life is to jump from one building to another. It may sound easy, but due to the “single life” factor, it can be very nerve racking and difficult.

Controlling One Single Life is as easy as just two taps. First tap is to make your character start running and the second tap makes him jump. Other than that, not much else to learn when playing the game. It just takes nerves of steel and accurate timing of the jumps.

The game contains 10 levels. Each one gets gradually harder and harder. You can fly through the first 6 or 7 levels depending on how confident you are in your skills but after that, you’ll want to practice each level until you know you can make the jump. Even if you do keep practicing, there’s always that little bit of doubt floating around in your head that you might not make it.

One Single Life is a very unique game that really messes with your mind. One one hand, the gameplay itself isn’t that difficult. It’s the fact that you only get one life to play the entire game which makes you question your skill. It took me 2 days to finally finish the game and that was because I kept playing the practice levels over and over again just to make sure I would make it on the real run. Even then, I would hold back sometimes just to practice again. I did finally reach level 10, passed it, and was awarded the ultimate rank of IMMORTAL, but is it really the end of the game? hmm…

One Single Life is available now in the App Store for free. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.

Description

WARNING! IN THIS GAME, YOU GET JUST ONE LIFE.

(Spread the word! Tournament Edition upgrade with leaderboards, coming soon!)

Stop reading this and ask yourself one simple question:

“If everything was on the line, would I have what it takes?”

Welcome to One Single Life. A game which poses that very same question and a game which only 4% of players in the world will be able to finish.

Unlike most games, the challenge doesn’t come from playing against the computer but against yourself. It’s you versus your own self-doubts.

Do you have what it takes? Or will you psych yourself out at the vital moment? There’s only one way to find out.

Enjoy!

  1. This sounds like a game specifically made to taunt me, seeing as how I somehow manage to die almost immediately upon starting any game (I may have even achieved death during tutorials before – the jury is out – ).

Clearly replay value was not an issue for the creators but how do they keep you from playing the game again? Do you end up with a “sorry you can’t try again” screen?

I may just have to go find out….

    😉
