Brisksaber is a new game from developer Flying Wisdom Studios that helps promote the upcoming re-release of  Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3D and sponsored by Lipton Brisk ice tea. Brisksaber is described as a lightsaber simulation app. You choose either to join the light side or the dark side of the force and must slash away all your enemies. The game is similar to the game Fruit Ninja where objects pop up fro the bottom of the screen and you must swipe your fingers across them to slash them. Slashing more than 1 object yields a combo while slashing one of your “friend” objects causes you to lose a lige. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll probably want to download this game, even if you’re not an Episode 1 fan.

If you’ve played Fruit Ninja before, then this game will be a breeze for you to just pick up and play. The mechanics are virtually the same although a bit more sluggish in this game, at least on the iPhone 4. There are 2 game modes included – a survival mode and a time trial mode. In survival mode, you try to survive as long as you can with the three lives you are given. If you let one of the enemy objects fall without slashing it, you lose a life. If you slash one of your friend objects, you also lose a life. In time trial mode, you are given 1 minute to see how many points you can get regardless if you slash a friend object or not. The only thing you lose are points in this mode.

For Star Wars fans, you’ll appreciate all the official music, sound effects, and characters that appear in the game, even with the Lipton branding that pops up sporadically. There are different lightsabers you can choose from too although picking different ones doesn’t seem to affect the game. When playing, the lightsaber in my opinion gets in the way a bit. It just takes up too much of the screen space and I’d much rather they left it out and implied that you were using different lightsabers, similar to what Fruit Ninja does with their different blades. I also disliked the load times in this game which seemed a bit long for the type of game this is.

All-in-all, Star Wars fan should still enjoy this game even though I know many did not like Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. At least the game is free so you can’t really complain about it much and it is still fun to play.
