TGWK’s Review – Puzzle Bonsai v1.1 (iOS)

Puzzle Bonsai is a creative logic puzzle game from developer Kimmo Lahtinen. Unlike other games that have too much visual candy, Puzzle Bonsai takes a different approach and instead takes a very minimalistic, zen like approach to its puzzles. In Puzzle Bonsai, you must figure out logic puzzles that are presented to you on a bonsai tree. Pieces of the puzzle reside on the branches of the tree and you must somehow get those pieces to equal to what is shown at the base of the tree by inserting “operators” into the blank spaces between puzzle pieces to make them equal what is at the base.

Puzzle Bonsai is actually pretty easy to figure out, but the puzzles themselves are very challenging. For example, if the tree is showing the numbers 5 and 6 and at the base it is showing the number 11, that means you’ll want to insert the “+” operator in between those 2 numbers to get the correct solution. There are three different game modes, Words, Numbers, and Shapes. Each one provides its own unique challenges and difficulties for players as not all players will be good at all modes.

Puzzle Bonsai is an excellent puzzle game. I really like how the entire game as a whole is presented to you and even though the puzzles can be really challenging, because of how mellow the game is and the music, you never really feel stressed out playing it. The way the game is set up, you have all the time in the world to solve each puzzle which is great because it allows you to take your time and really think things through. Is Puzzle Bonsia worth buying? Yes. It’s very challenging and really gets your mind working. On a side note, this game might be a bit difficult for children depending on their skill level.

Puzzle Bonsai is available now in the App Store for $1.99. It is a universal app and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad.Requires iOS 5.0 or later.
